WE WERE JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE WOULD BE ABLE TO DIRECT US REGARDING EITHER A REPAIR MANUAL FOR OUR MAYTAG A107A TOP LOADING CLOTHING WASHER OR HELP DIRECT US TO FIX THE PROBLEM THAT WE'RE HAVING WITH HER. . .

SHE IS (WE BELIEVE) A 1974 MAYTAG A107A, SERIES D3, SERIAL# 825502 CT TOP LOADING . . . WE'VE INHERITED HER FROM A RELATIVE AND HAVE BEEN USING HER FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 YEARS. . . SHE WILL NOT AGITATE AT ALL. . . BUT SHE DOES ALL OF HER OTHER DUTIES WELL!! I KNOW I HAVE OVERLOADED HER SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST!!!! . . . SHE WOULD MAKE A LOUD SQUEALING NOISE AND THEN STOP AGITATING. . . YOU COULD SMELL A BURNING SMELL. . . I WOULD STOP THE WASHER AND LET HER "SIT" FOR A WHILE. . . TAKE OUT THE LAUNDRY AND TRY TO MANUALLY ROTATE THE WASHER DRUM. . . ONCE IT WOULD "UNLOCK". . . I WOULD CONTINUE ON WITH MY WASHING. . . WELL, SURPRISE, SURPRISE. . . SHE FINALLY REFUSED TO GO AGAIN. . . PLEASE DON'T TELL ME, I KNOW I WAS ABUSIVE TO MY MACHINE. . . SHE WILL STILL SPIN OUT, BUT SEEMS TO START OFF A "LITTLE SLOWLY" IN THE SPIN CYCLE. . . I CAN NO LONGER MANUALLY MOVE THE DRUM AT ALL EITHER WAY. . . I BELIEVE THAT'S MY ONLY PROBLEM WITH HER. . . POOR THING. . . WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY GUIDANCE IN FIXING HER. . .

THANKS SO MUCH!!!

Hi Sibyl,

Your washer was built in October 1979.   The serial # tells all.   Another clue is the gold color trim on the control panel, it was gold from 1975 up thru 1980.

I would try checking and probably replacing the two drive belts under the washer, it takes less then 5 minutes.

NON AGITATING MT A107

Lay the washer on its side and take off the belts [ they just lift off no tools needed ] and turn the large center pulley by hand and see if it turns easily in the counter-clock wise direction and while doing this the agitator should be moving. If it is very hard to turn you have a transmission that is binding and it would need to be replaced or rebuilt. This is normally the end of a good old washer, but if you want to consider repairing there is an excellent post about rebuilding a MT washers transmission, it takes an hour just to read it LOL.
