Maytag Neptune TL - Atlanta Craigslist

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

That is a LOT of recent hardware for $25. Have to wonder though, why the owner gave up on it over a minor repair. Maybe it wasn't the first?

I thought 'Neptune' was their name for FL.

I thought 'Neptune' was their name for FL

It was, but in a paucity of imagination that might have presaged Maytag's demise as an independent company, they recycled the name for the top loader, distinguishing it as the Neptune TL as opposed to just the Neptune (always FL).

As for the machine, I suppose for $25 it could be a fun gizmo to tinker with. But I wouldn't necessarily expect it to work after the pump replacement.

This is one of the strangest top loaders I've ever seen. I've seen videos of it washing, it barely uses any water.

It's an interesting concept, but it's almost like a standard washplate washer.

What doesn't make any sense is why the paddles move forward then stop, then start moving forward again, rather than reverse... It's as if they were supposed to, but the engineers took that out of the motor and programming at the last minute...

It was an interesting concept at its time, but I've heard that parts for these things are difficult to come by and they're not cheap to fix.

The price is right, for someone who wants to collect those really weird machines, it might just be a labor of love!

Oh, another one-gallon toploader. [eyeroll]

The electronic controls alone would put me off, but I'm a hardcore clockwork type guy.

Jumping to conclusions, but sounds like the owner is being perfectly honest that it's only WORTH $25. Good for him.

I think this is one of the best attempts to achieve sort of a frontloading motion in a V-axis tub. This machine deal better with gravity than all the other wash plate machines. A pity it didn't work out well. It would have been better if the wheels had turned both ways and I bet that indeed it was intended that way looking at those wheels and how they are situated in the drum. It's already a modern classic I think, similar to a bouncing basket.
