I need to replace the bearings and brake pad on my Maytag A208S and my first question is, which way does the tub nut unscrew? I can't remember if it was lefty loosy or righty loosy on this machine...

Sometimes there is a damper pad in question, not a brake pad, are you in question about them? The damper pads go on the dome of the bottom of the cabinet pan, under the spin assembly. They dampen the spin and agitation gyrations from hitting heavy metal. Are you sure these are not what you mean? They are three strips that resemble velcro, but made differntly to absorb shock and must be secured with hi heat restitance glue.

If it screeches as it brakes to a stop(dry brake), you need to put a teaspoon of turbine oil into the brake. Remove the rubber cap, phillips head screw and drive lug. Spin the pulley counterclockwise off the helix and add the oil inside the rim of the brake. Put everything back together and it will stop silently like before.
