The washer IS an 806 and the dryer is the matching 808 which means it's a big door S.O.H. (Stream Of Heat) dryer.

And...
The washer is shaded avocado but I don't know about the dryer? So because of the shaded coloring, I'm sure that'll gives us a better time frame of when these were made. I'm guessing mid-70's?

1975, 1976 or 1977
The first year for the gold control panel trim was 1975 and I believe the last year for avocado was 1977, so they would be one of those 3 years.

PS... Phil, you can easily tell the "806" control panel by the vertical chrome strip that goes up from the timer surround, dividing the control panel in half. Also, look at the white panels, if they are rather "white" and look some what "flat" or like a matte / non-reflective finish, they are not 806's. However if they look like a more "dull" or dingy white or perhaps "bluish white" AND if you can see any reflection in them, they're glass and defineately 806's / 808's. I hope this helps!

These Maytags are seldom found in the land of "buy new"(this area).

an 806 is probably the ultimate in TOL full operator controlled machines....
you can match any cycle, to any wash/spin speed, and wash/rinse combinations, the variations are endless for any type of load....
my only preference is upgrading to the 50hz pulley.....especially for the larger capacities, needing a little more agitation kick for larger loads, and a higher spin speed.....
a sudssaver, if provided, is another great option.....
this exact model shown, may not have the timed bleach or tub light...
that lit up panel is spectacular to view....

Remember, I told you Phil that I had a lead on a set in my dream list post? I'm picking them up tomorrow.
This set was made in April/May of 1975. Christina, they are both actually 806's in this case. This is one of the end of the line Halo of Heat dryers. The 806 and 808 were both matches to the 806 washer. The earlier design (halo of heat) 806 has a smaller door and the lint filter in the back of the drum. It also has no buttons on the control panel. The later designed 808 has a larger door with the lint filter in the front of the drum. It has buttons on the control panel.
This dryer is the one year only combo of Halo of Heat and gold control panel.

I actually like the newer design better, personally. Despite its cool 1 year only status, I was slightly disappointed that it wasn't an 808. I had a lower model Maytag set from 1980 that Volvoguy87 has now with a steam of heat dryer. I have a halo of heat with my 1964 702 set. Nice, but that lint filter is a slight pain to get to and it's harder to load/unload than its descendant. That said, it's nice to just say the 806 set vs the 806/808 set and it's a great working dryer.

Inner-tub of Washer is still very shiny. Maybe a low-mileage unit.
That's a nice set for $100.00. I have a similar set, only in harvest gold, and with a suds saver washer. The dryer is the gold backed HOH.

Martin, I believe the last year for the tub light was 1973 (??) and the timed bleach dispenser was also '73 or '74. The were gone for sure when the gold control panel trim started in '75.

I thought it was an 808 dryer because of the gold/sunglow lower control panel. There wasn't a picture in the ad that showed there wasn't any buttons, shading, or the smaller door, to be able to tell.

I wonder how hard it would be to add a tub light?
The owner bought the house from an elderly lady and at the time she bought it, it hadn't been used in 3 years. She tried it once and smelt the belt burning. That's been a few years ago now. The dryer has a bad door switch which was bipassed, but recently hasn't been getting as hot. Hense why they are being replaced. The old girls need some repairs after 42 years.
