Maytag / Whirlpool et. al. washer-dryer parts availability aprox cut off date

What i am wondering is IN GENERAL, how far back can one reliable find critical wear parts for the aforementioned manufacturers of Washers and dryers?

Like say, "any 'Tag Dependable Care machine can be confidently bought in regards to the parts it will likely need in the forseeable future"...would be the kind of thing i am wondering about.

And as a vacuum enthusiast i know on ocassion AMAZING oem parts stock sometimes becomes available when a vac store clears out their basement/attic. Does that sorta thing happen with auto washers very often?

Ah, now we come down to the real reason I hate Whirlpool

They intentionally destroyed real-Maytag parts to force people to replace them with their trashy stuff.

German companies keep parts for at least seven and some for 10 years.

French companies keep parts for two years then trash them to force you to buy new.

Italian companies are pretty good at sourcing parts as their customers spread across new-family-used groups of users.

Destroy parts????? DUMB!!!!You sell a customer a part for an old machine today----they just may buy a new machine in the future.This idea will only piss the customer off-and he will buy ANOTHER brand!

Destroying Old Stock Of Parts By New Owners

Is fairly common practice when an enterprise is purchased.

When Pfaff was sold entire warehouses and such were emptied of parts and even machines; all went into dumpsters to be rubbished. Some workers managed to save bits, but overall the damage was done and intent clear; to clear out old stock and force persons to give up their old (and trusty) Pfaff and Viking sewing machines for the new garbage by Singer.

Pfaff-the Sews&Vac place here mentioned about the Pfaff parts-too bad-so remember when I was a kid my StepMom had a Pfaff that dated before WW2 and was bought in Germany-that machine was a BEAST!!!Sometime stupid management will learn that discarding old parts stock is really NOT such a good idea.Great way to alienate customers!If customers remember that your company helped them fix an older machine-esp one from a relative-then these companies will get the idea-and the customer may well buy a new machine if their treatment was positive.Some folks would like to fix their machines from their Mom,Grandmom,Stepmon,so on.If negative as with both here-then the customer is pissed off and will buy from someone else.

Dependable Care parts destroyed

I cannot disagree with this more.
Of course I don't know, for sure, since I'm not part of the inner halls of WP.
But....I've seen countless times, many Dep. Care parts still out there on appliance part sites, still available.
Many are now stamped/marked with FSP; WP's parts logo.
Many Dep. Care parts are NLA, but many still are as WP part numbers.

Unless someone has evidence that WP went and maliciously sought out and destroyed all legacy MT parts, then please don't spread this misinformation.

In other mergers I've been involved with, many times we would just discontinue the parts, as the really really old tooling would be in need of repair. Or demand has dropped for those parts.
But many other parts, especially if they were purchased and maintained by another supplier, we would leave them "active" until a later time of analysis and SKU reduction.

Many many parts still available for my parents' MT LA511, purchased in 1983.
That's 33 years ago.
It's impressive Maytag themselves did not discontinue such old model parts.

But IIRC while Maytag was still that, and not part of Whirlpool they prided themselves on supplying parts for even older appliances.

IIRC read somewhere the owner of a old Maytag wringer washer that was gas powered needed a part for repair. Owner of repair shop didn't have it but contacted Maytag corporate. *Think* upshot was while the thing was NLA Maytag had the repair person send the part to them, and once identified made another that was sent back.

As one who has been stocking up parts for Maytag wringer, am surprised at just how much is still out there. No, it may not be from Whirlpool but plenty of independent repair/parts persons seem to have stock for everything from washers to dishwashers to whatever.

Where parts are rubbished it seems it is because a place simply decides there isn't a market and or otherwise cannot move. How many times have we heard in the group of this or that parts/repair place getting a dumpster and rubbishing shelves and shelves of NOS parts. IIRC that parts place in Parma did so after owner died and his family took over.
