Hi Cindy,
Thanks for the Craig's list link. It does look like a decent washer and is within about 4 hours drive. I might think about it, but we are going to go ahead and have the one shipped from out of state anyway, since it is in really mint shape and working. It has been lovingly restored by all appearances. My husband found enough information about a similar model to get a shipping rate. It's not cheap, but in the whole scheme of things we feel it is worth it.
I'm in north Florida. There are a lot of quilters down here, so I do see vintage machines on Craig's list often. My guess is that most women wouldn't part with their sewing machines when they moved, and they are easy to transport. I have my grandmother's old treadle machine, and would not part with it for anything, but I'm sure spoiled with my computerized one.
When it comes to dishwashers and washing machines though, most women thought newer was better. I'm finding out that isn't necessarily so....particularly with dishwashers. I'm about to become a fanatic about collecting nice Hobart KitchenAid dishwashers. The new ones have done me in and I want enough of them to last me so I never have to be tortured with a new one again. The old wringer washing machine is just something I've always wanted.
Sandy
