Maytag Wringer Washer Model J2LP

I'm thinking about purchasing one of these old washers that looks to be in very nice shape. Is anyone able to tell me the aproximate weight, height, and width so I can get a shipping estimate?

I've always wanted one of these old wringer washers and am excited about the prospect.

Have you looked on Craigs List in your local area? You can probably find a great deal and pick it up yourself.

Most of the antique dishwashers or washing machines seem to be either in the northeast or the west. Unfortunately it would be extremely rare to find anything like this in Florida, if ever.

You seem to have a point there. My friend in WI said the same thing when she was looking for a vintage sewing machine, not much to choose from in her area, she had noticed that there was more to choose from in my area. What area of FL are you located?

Thanks for the Craig's list link. It does look like a decent washer and is within about 4 hours drive. I might think about it, but we are going to go ahead and have the one shipped from out of state anyway, since it is in really mint shape and working.It has been lovingly restored by all appearances. My husband found enough information about a similar model to get a shipping rate. It's not cheap, but in the whole scheme of things we feel it is worth it.

I'm in north Florida. There are a lot of quilters down here, so I do see vintage machines on Craig's list often. My guess is that most women wouldn't part with their sewing machines when they moved, and they are easy to transport. I have my grandmother's old treadle machine, and would not part with it for anything, but I'm sure spoiled with my computerized one.

When it comes to dishwashers and washing machines though, most women thought newer was better. I'm finding out that isn't necessarily so....particularly with dishwashers. I'm about to become a fanatic about collecting nice Hobart KitchenAid dishwashers. The new ones have done me in and I want enough of them to last me so I never have to be tortured with a new one again. The old wringer washing machine is just something I've always wanted.

Good luck with your machine and hope you enjoy it, I am enjoying mine, but getting it to run without incident right now is challenging. I have had it almost two weeks and something is alway happening. Hopefully will get to the end of the quirks soon.

Hate to interrupt on girl talk, but don't get anything as rough as what you posted in that link above. You don't want a bunch of headaches. Remember when transporting a Maytag wringer it has to kept in the upright position or oil will run out.

Thanks Cindy. I'll check your threads out. I love pictures too! My machine hasn't shipped yet....I think the freight company is picking it up early this week. I will put some pictures of it up (if I can figure out how to do so).

I used to have a lot of fun doing the wash for my mom with her wringer washer. It wasn't so fun if she made us hang the wash on the line in the winter. I'm not sure what my parents ever did with that washer when she got an automatic set. I do know it was still working.

I'm spoiled with my Speed Queen automatic washer but it will be fun to try this old wringer washer out. I'm told by the seller that parts are still available for it. It also looks like much love was put into it to restore it.
