Maytag wringer washer parts

Hi! I'm new and I have an old wringer washer. I can't find a model number, but based on the serial number, it might be a model J. It is a maytag, also. It is electric. I'm looking for info about the model and a part. I need one of the brackets that holds the top wringer on. The two tabs on the top are broken. Hopefully, I can get this pic to work. Anyway, does anyone know if there's a place to get parts like this? Thanks!

Wringer?

Please post a picture of the washing machine. Chances are that someone here can identify the model based upon its shape, color of plastic parts, presence of a pump, etc.
As for parts, they are floating around somewhere. If you have an old Maytag sales and service company in town, they sometimes have wringer parts.

Hi Kathryne ... that is a Maytag Model J2LP; also known as the "Commander". It looks like your machine was made in April 1954; that makes it 54 years old! NOT BAD!!!

I don't have my part numbers with me, but Lawrence is right; call Lehman's, ask for the Service Department and tell them you need two bearing hangers for the upper roll. They refurbish the Model E Maytag, but those will work on your machine, too.

I would think they (Lehman's) should be able to help you with a visual document (a page out of the service manual) on how to change them.

It looks like yours fell apart; is that right? It lasted a good long time, huh?

WOW! Thanks Geoff! That's too cool. Actually, my husband found this one a year or so ago. Some guy was taking it out to the dumpster and so hubby asked if he could have it. He knows how much I like these things! We've finally got around to trying to fix it up. It seems this and the water pump are all that are bad with it. (I think it has a water pump) It gravity drains just fine though. My last project was my 1950's magic chef gas range.

Any idea what the little metal thing is on the left side just under the black band? Did something used to hang there?

Kathryne ... that is a lid hanger. Do you still have the lid to this machine? There was a large washer in the middle of the lid where you could hang it in that slot. You can tell your machine is old, the lid hanger looks like its metal. Maytag started making those in plastic later on in the 1950's.

Too bad about the pump; those are really nice to have. If the gravity piece works fine, that's great too. Lehman's still has the hose for the gravity drain machines. Lehman's services a lot of Amish customers who don't use the pump models.

Does your agitator push down all the way on the rubber stop ring on the agitator shaft? If the rubber stop ring is dried out, you should get one of those too (inexpensive). That nice red bakelite agitator is a dead give away that that machine is from the 1950's; ENJOY!

Yes, I actually have the lid! No idea about the agitator, I'll have to go check. I don't know much about these machines yet, but am having lots of fun in the learning!

Wringer heads...

The shop I work for has two of those wringer heads complete. I'm not positive which model they are for but can research that. They are NOS... Let me know if you are interested. I'm sure I can get them to deal as we've had them forever...
