I am nearly done with a Maytag E2L renovation--motor is finally working, gear box is working, painted, new decal--everything...then in all the laying the washer down, sitting it up (to get the motor/belt working) the wringer started to come detached from the wringer arm (not sure the actual term...). The manual for this model says it's supposed to come off but I can't get it all the way off (even in the correct position) nor can i get it to sit flush down like it used to! argh. so the wringer doesn't work at all, of course, and i can't figure out how to get it either off to figure out the problem or to sit flush again. Any suggestions? i'm so close to being done and so frustrated! (the picture is one i took last week BEFORE the mishap...)

Wiggleitalittle

It may have some building up of oil in the wringer column creating back pressure. Wiggling it back and forth, making sure the directional lever is in the out position, it should find just the right spot and drop the last inch and half with a clunk and be ready to wring.

Thank you mixfinder, I have tried that for countless hours (minor exaggeration) and just tried again. wiggling, jiggling, bouncing, and other manuevers have been unsuccessful. I will keep trying it though b/c it makes good sense. thanks again
