Sunbeam and perhaps few others also sold similar dryers.

These mini dryers were marketed to women as an alternative to line drying their dainties that had been hand washed.

Back in day it was fairly common for nice girls and well brought up women to launder their undergarments and hosiery in sink then hang to dry. Usually this was a bathroom which meant males and anyone else using that room had to deal with sight of dripping laundry

There were also things like "Tidie Dryer" from Ronco that did dual duty; hair dryer and also for drying lingerie.

While all these contraptions did get hot enough to dry things heat wasn't very intense. But then again high heat wasn't necessary. Much lingerie and hosiery were made from man made fibers such as nylon or blends with cotton. Either way heat provided was enough to get job done.

For things like nylons and others made from synthetic fabrics (in whole or large part) "drip dry" is fine. By nature such fabrics are hydrophobic and thus dry rather quickly. Yes there is that bit of dripping water to bother about, but that's why things were hung over bath tub or shower.

Unless one was rinsing a few things out that rolling up in a towel gets old fast. It's fine for woolens and silks but whole idea is to get one with things and go to bed or whatever. [this post was last edited: 11/17/2023-18:41]
