They could be laundry detergent ads or others, such as for favorite cereals, sodas, beers, (with or without a jingle or theme music), cigarettes, cigars, etc.

For starters:

The various Tide Detergent ads, such as "The Cleanest clean under the sun..." or "You get a lot of clean with Tide."
Budweiser: "Where there's Bud, there's life..." and "When you say Budweiser, you said it all."
Coca-Cola: "I like to teach the world to sing..."

OK. Your turn.--Laundry Shark

from childhood I remember

the commercials for a local carpet cleaning company named Bouchelle's.
Their commercials had this BOOMING bass voice singing their phone number: HUDSON-three-two-seven-hundreeeeed!

I guess this would be classified as a public service announcement, but I remember the commercial that showed various landscapes strewn with litter, then a shot of a Native American man standing by a debris-laden stream, and then a close-up of a tear running down the man’s face. It was late 1960s or early 1970s. Great ad.

My fav commercials

1. Life Cereal (Mikey)
2. Coke (I'd like to teach the world to sing)
3. Calgon (because they showed the sudsy GE agitating on gentle with a disabled Filter-Flo (how'd they do that?

Do the Shake 'n' Vac

This has always been my favourite commercial, and ran for the best part of a decade before they eventually canned it in favour of a less memorable remake. Mention Shake 'n' Vac to anyone, and the chances are that they will be able to recite the entire song word for word (and possibly do the dance routine that goes with it as well).

My favorite commercial

My favorite commercial from the late 1970's to the early 1980's was the Ajax floor cleaner commercial(favorite one is the long version from about 1978-79).

Favourite regional ad

was one I saw in Minnesota in the 80s, for Kemps Dairy.....(You know which one....) The singing cows!

Then, the whole Maytag Ol' Lonely series, first with Jesse White, then with Gordon Jump.

One more favourite, was, at the time, the most expensive commercial ever on American television....Heinz's Great American Soups, with the Busby Berkeley-esque can rising from the floor, all the dancers, and I believe, Ann Miller, starring.

Lawrence/Maytagbear

Old Anacin ads:

"Mother PLEASE!!! I'd rater do it mySELF!!"

"Honey can't you keep Billy's bike OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY!!"

Those folks had to take Anacin because Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, etc.hadn't been invented yet.

And don't forget Special K's contribution to cattiness:

"Why Jan, what a lovely maternity dress. Oh, you're not?"

Very old one here.

Dating myself? Probably but bear in mind that I was too young to remember exacly what the commercial was for! That said, I *think* it was a butter commercial.

"IT'S NOT NICE TO FOOL WITH MOTHER NATURE!!" *insert thunder and lightning here*

Maytagbear....

Thanks!! Though my memory failed me, that was a fond memory from years back. Thank you for filling me in!!

Hugs, D

I'll have to try and remember the site I used to go to to see a lot of old commercials and see if it's still there.

Michael, we have a pest control service out here that has a little song with their phone number, kind of like Empire (LOL).

I seem to recall McDonald's did some rather elaborate ones in the early 70s, one surrounding their "You Deserve a Break Today" slogan, and another one about how clean their restaurants were.

There was also a local one touting a car wash in Suburban Minneapolis that was kind of fun and probably was done with the people that worked there.

Another that goes way back probably into the 60s, was for Glo Coat floor wax. It was supposed to protect against black heel marks, and everytime someone would walk into the room, they'd be levetated on this clear thing and moved across the room.

Phyllis Diller

Does anyone happen to have a copy of that b/w commercial that was on youtube with Phyllis Diller? It was a detergent commercial. It's no longer on youtube for some reason. If anyone has it, could you email it to me at [email protected]? Thanks!
