Hi All,

I've picked up another Miele T490 and this one isnt heating. I've confirmed that the heat relay is being triggered by the Computer and have found that the over temp thermostat thats in series with the Heater circuit is open. The element has 27 ohms resistance, so I believe its ok.

I need some help though.

1) Does anyone know what the resistance range is on the Thermistor on the heater box? Its not open circuit, but if I could test whether its sending appropriate data to the computer, that would be helpful. The safety thermo could've just failed, but I'd like to be sure.

2) What is the trick to release the Drum from the rear drum bearing, in the end I removed the Drum and heater box assembley in once piece, but I'd like to be able to seperate the two so I can replace the grease in the drum bearing when I tear it apart again to replace the thermostat.

3) What is the grease that is smeared on the front edge of the drum, and around the bearing. Is it white lithium? For the front edge of the drum, I assume the grease is supposed to be on the front edge and the bottom lip. Should it be in contact with the front drum rollers?

Thankyou for any advice. I was blown away when I realised the T490 was about 20 years old, it doesnt seem that long ago, I was eyeing it off in catalogs still. Maybe I'm just getting old :)

Cheers

Nathan
