I have found a (reasonably) local stockist of assorted 'Milwaukee' products. They are very rare this side of the pond. I am seeking opinions from members as to whether they are as good as they are reputed to be.... Do I need to watch out for inferior (possibly foreign produced) products which are now being branded 'Milwaukee'??

Initially, I am considering buying a set of 1/4" drive 'impact rated' tool bits to go with my existing tooling. Are they likely to warrant the extra outlay in extended longevity?? I am not an abuser of tools, but frequently have to tackle rusted/stiff fasteners.

Any opinions welcome, thanks in anticipation

Dave,

I'm not sure which tools you are looking at. Vintage AC powered Milwaukee tools were generally excellent. I have a 4-1/2" Angle grinder and a 3/8" Variable Speed Drill that are as good as tools get. They will last a lifetime.

The new Milwaukee tools are probably no longer US made. Of course most of the hand power tools are no longer AC powered. I have zero experience with their cordless tools. All the cordless tools I have are Bosch and I have been VERY pleased with those.

The 1/4" bit set is surely made by someone else for Milwaukee, but it is likely better then no-name junk. I have had the best luck with Hitachi and Bosch brands as far as the tool bits go. They are likely all made by the same company, but the generic ones sure seem to be nothing but junk

Vintage Milwaukee

My dad has a 35-40 year old Sawzall that just won't stop going. He doesn't take care of his tools either.

I've had my eyes on their products for awhile now, next thing I'm in the market for is a new cordless drill. They had several that seemed to get very good reviews. I can maybe tolerate Chinese made IF it's good quality.

Clarification

Perhaps I should have said in my original post that I have found a stockist of new, 'hot from the USA' Milwaukee tools, corded and cordless, and also assorted tool bits. It is the bits which I am primarily interested in at the moment, though I may consider a new cordless drill soon, if reports are good.
I will bear in mind comments received so far, and will check for 'Country of Origin' information, if it appears on the packaging. I already have several 'Crescent' wrenches of various types, which (as expected of American design/manufacture) do an excellent job. (I also have a few 'vintage' Snap-On spanners/wrenches, which have proved pretty much unbreakable in normal use, which includes the kind of use which involves 'skinned' knuckles and lots of profanities) ;-)

Many thanks for your thoughts
