Hello everyone...

I got this beauty today, BUT...the only problem is, no cord. The thermostat is in the cord and I would really like to find one. If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated. The model is 170M. I have searched Ebay and no luck.

Wow ....

That is a beauty! Would love to have one like that. Hope you can find a cord. Can you post a pic of the socket on the side of the pot? May help in the search for the cord.

beauty for sure

I was a coffee pot collector for years. Down sized earlier this year and gave all but 3 favorites away. I do not think that pot is immersible. Have you tried just a regular cord? You can still find them at the mom and pop hardware stores.

beauty for sure

Because of the little lip where the socket is a regular percolator cord won't work. I tried one last night but there needs to be a "cut out" on the cord itself in order for it to work.

Interesting .....

The ad says this pot "stops automatically, just at the right time. Then keeps it drinking hot till poured." Also mentions immersible. This infers that there are a couple of things going on and possibly contained in the cord.

A timed sequence at start to get water boiling to get the pot to percolate. Then after a period of time, lowers temp to keep contents "drinking hot". Then it says "till poured", which seems to refer to a tilt switch that turns it off.

Probably a bimetal strip that senses the temperature and slowly opens after a period of time .... that would time the percolation. When opened, it then supplies current to another bimetal strip that opens and closes at a reduced temperature to keep coffee warm. But just a guess at mcm 50's analog technology. At least this is how the Mirro-Matic fry pan I have works, a simple bimetal strip with a dial to increase the bimetal strip tension to adjust temp .... all contained in the cord.

The square hole at the top of the socket looks similar to the fry pan socket. The temperature sensing probe of the cord goes thru there and the electrical connections on the left and right.

Just a thought, someone might could fab a cord to fit the electrical connections and simply unplug it after the perking is complete. At least returning this beauty back to semi-service while waiting on finding the elusive oem cord.[this post was last edited: 10/23/2020-07:55]
