It may have never been used, but one knob has been replaced. Wonder what happened. And in the photo with the oven door down, what are we seeing in the oven window - the serpentine line?

One Large Burner....
....Used to be all you got on a 30-incher, even a TOL model. The gorgeous, TOL 1957 Straight-Line Design J 304 Spacemaker 30 from GE - in every other respect absolutely equal to the TOL 40-inch Liberator - had only one. You can see it in the photo below, originally posted to AW.org by Ben swestoyz.
And the other guys are correct - that Sears design is from the blingomaniacs at Roper.

I can't answer your question - different manufacturers did different things. I can tell you that by the mid-1960s, the two-large/two-small burner configuration was seen on TOL and then upper-MOL electric ranges. However, the three-small/one-large configuration continued on for decades on BOL and lower-MOL units.
I personally find the lack of a second large burner to be a deal-breaker. The only time I've ever considered doing without one was when a Spacemaker 30 like the one shown in the photo I posted came up for sale here in Waterloo. That is such a rare and beautiful range that I would have tried to deal with the lack of a second large burner.
