Had several things on order from France, and figured whilst one was at it why not have a few bottles of laundry soap sent over.

Packet arrived quite quickly considering how heavy it was (the main order was for vintage French domestic items), but nestled inside were four bottles:

2 - Ariel Excel Gel "Actilift" in the scent "Fraicheur Alpine"

1 - OMO - Petit et Puissant (3x concentre)in scent " fleurs des tropiques et mangolia"

1 - Persil Petit et Puissant au savon de Marseille

Was going to take some of those "catch me kiss me, kiss me catch me" photos, but digital camera's battery needs recharging and by the time one hauls it out and does all that, the moment will be gone! *LOL*

Just by sniffing the bottles can tell am going to LOVE these detergents, indeed it may become a regular thing. The Fraicheur Alpine is a very pleasant fragrance.

Trust me to have just done the washing yesterday, so the hamper is empty and therefore test runs will have to wait until the bed linens are changed on Monday.

Must say these bottles of Ariel are quite heavy, considering the low dosage, may have enough for a long time! *LOL*

Savon de Marseille?

Good Lord, in these days of extreme paranoia, how do you get strange liquids and powders through baggage checks and US Customs? Do you have some ex-pat French friend who insists on home-grown detergents? Even so, that ain't easy.( I hate to admit this to you Laundress, but when I was 19, I worked at an appliance store on Madison Avenue called "Elgot". One of my customers was an interesting woman who was married to some Credit Lyonnais executive doing a stint on Wall Street. She came into the store looking for a new washer and dryer. She lived in a Coop that had a TOL GE pair and was beside herself because, of course, it couldn't compare to her Miele at home (she pronounced it like "Honey"). She kept telling me how great "MY MIELE" was and I listened because I was interested and because I had NO idea what a Miele was, but it sounded like the French version of a Maytag, so I sold her an A806 pair. It was a good commission for me and I went over to her apartment after the sale to make sure she was happy with it. She was very polite and acted satisfied, but now, knowing what I know now, I cringe when I think what I did. There was nothing on sale at that time{that I know of}, in 1978, that could have compared to her Miele, but I was so ignorant. If I had known then what I know now, commission or not, I would have told her not to waste her money, to send her laundry out from then on, and to count the days until she went back to France.)

You might want to take a shorter trip over to Astoria, specifically to the "Price Fair" market and sample some Brazilian detergents, including many varieties of "OMO".

agreed!

A dream:
Persil au savon Marseillaise (which is NOT identical to Henkel's Persil, that one is called "Le chat" (the Cat) en France, because "Savon Mareillaise" was earlier with the name "Persil", which translates "parsley"). The French Persil is a DREAM!! This soapy and sweet laundry smell! And it cleans like Schwarzenegger shooting down other Terminators, spotless on the first go!

"Eau de Javel" (same as chlorine bleach, Chlorox) but it costs a fraction of what you would pay in other countries(0.79 in France per litre). Here in bloody Germany you can only get it blended with stupid detergents of all kinds ("Klorix", 2.89 Euros per litre, blueish, somewhat thicker, imagine regular floor cleaner mixed with Chlorox) but not the real greenish watery chorine bleach just as it is (a shame, if you ask me)

On top: I do LOOOOVE "hyperdoux" fabric softener (by Eco plus, a no-name brand of "E.Leclerc" stores). Hyperdoux (blue bottle, ocean fresh) just smells SO classically laundry care like in the 60s to 80s, so classical that it cannot be compared to all that jasmin-tea feng-shui crap we have here now (Blaming P&G's Lenor). I might possibly even drink it (Hyperdoux, that is) LOL ;-) *just kidding*

Vive la France et son monde de lavage! Je l'adore! And love to my sister who lives only 4 car minutes away from the French border ;-)

Elgot Kitchens & Appliances:

Is still around, and is located on Lexington Avenue on East 68th Street across from Hunter College. Know it well and have dealt with them several times over the years. Aside from Gracious Homes it is where a bulk of the "Park Avenue" crowd shops for appliances and such.

How does one get liqud detergents through?

Didn't know things were that bad! *LOL* Packet arrived without any indications of customs nosing around, nor extra duty affixed. Lots of goddies in this box, my contacts in France did us proud.

Le Chat et al.

Have so much Henkel Persil in my stash ( a case of megaperls sensitive), that wanted to try the "other" Persil and see what there is. Yes, French "parsley" does have a wonderful scent, maybe next time.

Eau de Javel sold in France often comes in little sausage type packets, similar to what one found fabric softeners in ages ago. Since the French rarely use the stuff for laundry, but use gallons of it for house cleaning, it is found NOT in the laundry section, but where cleaners and such are stashed.

Savon de Marseille is a huge thing in France and many other parts of Europe. However many of the laundry detergents boasting of this scent, puts one in mind of insect repellant. Have a huge cache (surprise)of those large cubes of SdeM that have a devine parfum. As with many French housewives, when one wishes to launder with the stuff simply either grate enough for the job, or make a laundry liquid.

Le Chat (by Henkel) makes a gentle detergent which is mostly soap flakes, and one has always wondered what it does after prolonged use to front loading washing machines.

Was going to take some snaps, but then there have been so many pictures of Euro laundry detergents of late, especially Ariel Excel "Actilift" gel figured why bother cluttering up the group with more. *LOL*
