Monarch Range

Hello! I've been trying to find more information about Monarch ranges and have found very helpful information in these forums. But I am curious if anyone has more experience with the model pictured here-- I am specifically interested in knowing if the burners are standard calrod type and/or can be replaced easily. I am likely going to purchase it next week. Thank you!

Are Chromalox brand units and are easily replaced.

They don't look warped or is that something you only can see up close? Maybe you want higher wattage? That's a great range and reflects quite a change in the depth profile of the cooktop from earlier decades. Is it a double oven model? Given the color of the panel behind the controls, I would guess that this model dates from 1956 when that anodized copper trim was popular.

Nice Looking Range

Replacement top elements may be able to be found here and there, but you are not likely to be able to just go out and buy 4 new elements that will fit and look good.

 

Good news is that you are unlikely to need to replace all or even one element even if you intend to use this as your daily driver, if treated well top elements on electric ranges can last more than 50 years of daily use, and it is unlikely that this range saw hard use.

 

The best way to keep your elements from failing is Don't allow them to be red hot, use proper flat bottomed cookware and never use a pan smaller than the element on high heat.

My mom's 1949 Westinghouse range only had one of its Corox burner elements replaced (with an identical one off of another old Westinghouse) in the nearly 60 years she owned it.

 

Besides what John said, I think another major reason the elements lasted so long is that contents in skillets were always stirred and the pots and pans were never banged around on the burners.

 

From what I've seen of Monarchs, they are impressive stoves and I'm sure you'll enjoy using yours for many years to come.
