With the corn harvest being half of what it should be red meat and poultry will be getting higher in price this years unless more corn is released to be used as feed and corn taken away from fuel for us.

Here is a link to read and sign the petition of stopping corn for fuel not feed.

Cynical, but Cargill, ADM, et al lobbyists won't stand still for that. The corn fuel regulations and subsidies are woven across alphabet agencies, specifically to make them very hard to untangle. These companies are much more dedicated to manipulation than the livestock/poultry industries. Corn fuel is legislative economics not fuel economics. The industry doesn't return the energy it consumes, simply absorbs the subsidies, and raises food prices.

OTOH, cars will run fine on gas alone--better actually--and people have to eat.

I will admit to living in "ethanol central." There are three ethanol plants within 25 miles of where I live which employ quite a few people. I am always surprised to hear people criticizing subsidies of wind power--also very big out here on the windy prairie-- or alternative fuels when we are still subsidizing oil companies who managed record profits through the severe recession.

I do understand the concerns about corn usage, and alternative fuels might better be produced using something other than corn.

And yes, this thread should probably be moved to DL.

In Brazil, they use the spent sugarcane to produce ethanol AFTER they have extracted the sugar from it. It is a monument to greed and manipulation that our country uses the actual ears of corn instead of the spent corn stocks or switch grass to produce ethanol, a fuel that takes more energy to produce than it gives back.

If you have freezer space, buy meat while the market is glutted.
