OK guys and girls, friend is considering buying a new dishwasher. Currently has the ISE version of a KA, apparently tubes feeding upper spray arm are going bad and he's worried that it can't be fixed. Just in case, any recommendations on a modern dishwasher that's reliable, cleans well, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

My niece has a Sears Ultra Wash dishwasher. It is now about 5 years old. I don't know the model number, but I do recall it is an all electronic model. She loves it. She hasn't had a single repair and is very pleased with the way it cleans.

The last time I visited, I played with it a bit (because that's what we do!!), and I was amazed at the layout of the racks. The silverware basket was along the right side of the lower rack and the front of the upper rack had a little tray area for large utensils. The racks also felt very heavy and very well constructed.

These are reasonably priced and might be a good option for your friend.

dishwashers

What's your friend's price range? I have been shopping for dishwashers and saw a Hotpoint for $199.00 all the way to a Bosch for $739.00 and everything in between at Lowe's. It's almost overwhelming that there are so many choices. Didn't make it to Sears, but love Kenmore appliances anyway.

Some of the things that I was looking for were: No dial (touchpad please), tall tub, and stainless interior. I think that most new dishwashers are energy and water efficient and pretty quiet, no matter what the price.

Happy shopping and good luck!

I have Sear's Kenmore Ultra Wash that is approaching 10 years old. It has a dial on the right and a row of buttons on the left, also, it has the silverware along the right side of the bottom rack. It has been a workhorse and has never had a repair. We run it between 6 and 10 times a week for my family of 4 and we couldn't be happier with it. The timer has started making a noise, but other than that it has never let us down.

Give WP a peek

I have had a WP dw for 15 yrs. now and it has never had a problem and cleans great.

Granted i don't know what the reliability is now especially with the tall tub models, but WP still makes a couple of standard size models with no washtowere in the way for under $400.
Consumer reports would be a good place to check.
