My friend has an attic fan that he has mounted on a furniture dolly to use while he is working in his garage or driveway. The motor is bad, so he bought an electric motor at Harbor Freight. It turns the fan too fast. Will a washer or dryer motor work? Anyone know the average RPM of these motors? My friend doesn't really want to get into building a reduction gear system so he wants a motor that is between 1300-1700 RPM. Thanks for your help.

Presto/Chango!

Can't he install a different diameter drive pulley so it will slow the fan down? That is usually done all the time. The guys at Harbor Freight can probably determine what he will need and sell it to him.

an appliance motor is the right rpm's, but it is not directly powered. You'd have to rig it. I have tons of GE motors, but they are a bit heavy to ship. try a local scrap yard or salvage resale place. matt
