I have some of these automatic toasters.

The KitchenAid and Cuisinart models have 4 slots, each set of two has its own button/shade control. When the button is pressed, the slots lower and when the time is up they automatically raise.

The Kenmore model I have has 2 long slots so it can hold up to 4 slices. Both are controlled from the same settings.

For some reason it looks like the KitchenAid models of these are discontinued. In some countries it looks like they even had racks with handles available so that sandwiches could be placed into the slots for grilling/toasting.

I believe Breville also sells a motorized model.

When I saw your heading, I thought maybe you were talking about a device called the Toast-O-Lator, a video of which can be seen at the link. As far as toasters that lower the bread by themselves, Sunbeam had them all beat with the Radiant Control models with a very sensitive mechanism that only required placing a slice of bread in the slot(s) to initiate the toasting cycle. It can be seen here.
