Musée Du Linge

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

France like many other parts of Europe

Has a good number of these "museums" that are basically personal collections displayed as part of someone's home or similar property. As such they are usually run more as a cross between a hobby and effort to share information. That is they are a sideline to whatever else the owner's do for a living. Do not know if an receive some sort of government funding or tax break.

OldeWash here in the States would be an example. A person or persons with a passion they want to share with the world.

Here is another similar "linge" museum, this time in Rhone:

Sunday is actually a big museum day in France with many places offering free admission the first such day of each month. It is also a good reason if possible to avoid any of the more popular places on weekends. *LOL*

Now dreaming of going to visit the place... I can just about imagine the reaction everyone I know would have if I said: "i'm going to France to visit a museum with ancient laundry equipment. Oh, if I have time, I might swing by the Louvre, too."

I also like how cheap the museum is. Rates for a museum here tend to be considerably more.

Although I guess in my case there would be the additional--and much higher cost--of getting to that museum in France...

COOLL!!!The manequins in the first picture kinda creeped me out.Like the sewing machines, washers, and the irons!!Is any of the equipment in the place operational?Would be neat to see them work.
