Look!

Thats my childhood vacuum. My grandpa had one just like it in his basement. Ours had a different bag though. Played with it ever since I could walk.
Same grandpa that has the 3 compacts, the commercial 344 that I now own, (had) model 31 special, 2 concepts, kenmore canister, and almost NIB sears 1960s floor polisher/shampooer.
______
But that hood!!!!! Oh boy was I terrified of it! It had no lens, so the dark hole in the front just creeped me out. But I grew fond of it. Never did I dare plug it in for I was too scared.
Earlier this year I decided to tear into it (or was that last year? I forgot!) I needed parts for a sanitaire, and thought "Oh it cant be any different". Well I was wrong and everything was different.
I do still have the hood, broken metal fan, base plate, and distribulator.
I did finally end up plugging it in last year just to see if it was worth saving, sadly the motor was seized.
_______
History on our eureka (well mine as my grandparents said!) the 2 344s, and 31 special---.
The mansion my grandparents live in was built in 1910, and finished in 1915. The church owned it for about 40 years, then sat abandoned for a decade, then bought by a family that decided to start a cleaning service.
That cleaning service is now the nation wide company of --"The Maids". They used those other vacuum cleaners until 1981 when by grandfather bought the home.
Home was rebuilt in 1988, with a total of $133,000 in restoration work. New tile roof put on 5 years ago.
Here is an old picture of the house I found online. The styling is called Spanish Renaissance revival I think.
