Thats my childhood vacuum. My grandpa had one just like it in his basement. Ours had a different bag though. Played with it ever since I could walk.

Same grandpa that has the 3 compacts, the commercial 344 that I now own, (had) model 31 special, 2 concepts, kenmore canister, and almost NIB sears 1960s floor polisher/shampooer.

But that hood!!!!! Oh boy was I terrified of it! It had no lens, so the dark hole in the front just creeped me out. But I grew fond of it. Never did I dare plug it in for I was too scared.

Earlier this year I decided to tear into it (or was that last year? I forgot!) I needed parts for a sanitaire, and thought "Oh it cant be any different". Well I was wrong and everything was different.

I do still have the hood, broken metal fan, base plate, and distribulator.

I did finally end up plugging it in last year just to see if it was worth saving, sadly the motor was seized.

History on our eureka (well mine as my grandparents said!) the 2 344s, and 31 special---.

The mansion my grandparents live in was built in 1910, and finished in 1915. The church owned it for about 40 years, then sat abandoned for a decade, then bought by a family that decided to start a cleaning service.

That cleaning service is now the nation wide company of --"The Maids". They used those other vacuum cleaners until 1981 when by grandfather bought the home.

Home was rebuilt in 1988, with a total of $133,000 in restoration work. New tile roof put on 5 years ago.

Here is an old picture of the house I found online. The styling is called Spanish Renaissance revival I think.

And here is a little http://www.automaticwasher.org/EXTERNAL/cleditor/images/edit_bar_gray.jpgmore up to date photo.

That darnd sycamore tree is in the way! My grandma wants it removed, however it would be very expensive. There are 3 smaller (now actually quite big!) acorn trees with planters around them lining the sidewalk.

The whole yard is sprawling with many flowerbeds. To the south side of the yard are 2 c.a. 15 foot "snowball" trees/bushes, and in the spring, they look so beautiful.

The whole entire front on each side of those stone pieces near the walkway were redone for a large flowering garden.

Its always an ongoing process. We are rebuilding the south wall garden around the fountain, and expanding the planters around the trees.

Each summer, something new!
