If I buy a new washer and dryer this is what I would have. For a front loader I would have a Speed Queen AFN50R

For a dryer the Speed Queen stacked dryer. If I'm going dream, I'm going to dream big.

if I was going to replace the sets in my basement, it would be the Speed Queen FL with front controls, 2 sets, 2 washers and 2 dryers, side by side......

Speed Queen is definately the way to go!

I don't know why but I really like the front loader with the rear controls. That stacked dryer set is a great idea. I would love to have two dryers.

WOW..... I must have read your minds. ... lol I just posted in the Deluxe asking for opinions on the Speed Queen front loaders. I am interested in the AFB50R which can heat the water on the normal cycle.

The front loader cycles have set times on them, like a 24 min wash on the normal cycle which is fine with me. WIth the extra rinse, the cycle still complets in under and house and this machine does use a little more water. There is not drama in all the re-positioning of the load before spinning. I think they state it only takes 45 sec.

I haven't used a Speed Queen since I was at my cousins in Canada during the summer of 1977, but I was fascinated with it. There is a Speed Queen dealer just down the road from me, and I have been meaning to stop in and see if I could get some brochures from them.

Dreaming REALLY Big:

1- TWO sets of Maytag 906's - washers and electric dryers.

2- An Ironrite Model 95 ironer with the Ironrite Health Chair.

3- Ironing and sleeve boards, plus tailor ham and sleeve roll.

4- Two Elkay stainless topmount laundry sinks.

5- Shelving for folded items - at least ten linear feet.

6- Hanging space for hanger items - at least ten linear feet.

7- Wall cabinets for laundry supplies.

8- Undercabinet lighting to illuminate all countertops evenly.

9- At least twelve linear feet of countertop.

10- A floor drain.

11- Raised concrete platforms (four-inch height) for washers and dryers to sit on. In case of washer leaks, water would flow harmlessly off the platform, and down the floor drain, leaving appliances undamaged, except for whatever caused the leak in the first place.

Much of this is stuff I have or have had in the past (except those 906's and the Ironrite - sigh!), but I've never had it all in one room at the same time. Platforms for washers and dryers are particularly nice to have - I grew up with this arrangement, and it saves a lot of hassle.

Oh and every washer needs its own dryer... They dont have to match imho.. most washers i named with no dryer i would find a gas mate

My Dream Laundry Room would consist of:

a new TOL Speed Queen top loader washer/dryer
1962 Frigidaire WCI62/DCI62
1965 TOL GE Filter Flo w/ Mini-Wash/matching dryer
1978 MOL J.C.Penney washer/dryer
Maytag square tub wringer washer
pink Lady Kenmore wringer washer
set up with the J.C.Penney and Speed Queen on one wall and the Frigidaire and GE on opposite wall, both setting on 4" cement platforms finished with red bricks for asthetics, also a double wash tub on each wall between sets.
The wringers would be side by side in middle of short wall with counters a small counter on either side, with a tip out bin under each counter, one for storing Sears Ultra Plus detergent the other for 20 Mule Team Borax, there will be top cabinents here also storing my Faultless heavy spray starch, Fels-Naptha bars, Oxi-Clean spray, Murphy Oil Soap, and Original Scent Non-Ultra Dawn, as well as Mrs. Stewarts Bluing.
on the other short wall will be a long counter 2 inches above counter height with a small set of drawers on either end and open in center to store double wash tub for wringers. Clothespins, sprinkler tops and other small items will be in drawers. on the one long wall to end nearest long counter there will be a nook with a bar for hanging clothes on and a heavy duty ironing board set up in front of it, there will be a GE F-92 steam, spray, and dry iron on the ironing board. there will be 3 evenly spaced windows on the other long wall. The walls will be white wainscoating to chair rail height then a light gold flocked wall paper to ceiling, the flooring will be a stone print congoleum no wax floor with a burgandy shag area rug under the ironing board. The counter tops will be preferably vintage formica in grey cracked ice pattern, the cabinetry will be a honey finished maple with glass pulls, there will be white irish lace curtains on the windows, and for lighting I will have a celing fan in center and vintage ceiling hugger fixtures at either end of the room. I will have professionally framed vintage laundry ads hung on walls, but not many.
