Inside. I told him to do an empty run with some bleach. There was a little bit of standing water and some rust. I may do that for him while he's at work.

Interesting machine Vern! Try dishwasher Affresh - it's made by Whirlpool. I used it yesterday on the 'new' 1200. It is strong smelling for freshening, but has many other chemicals and cleaning agents in it to sanitize and remove stains.

I highly recommend it.

Neat looking dishwasher, and I love the basic Hotpoint range too!

Gordon

that looks exactly like the Hotpoint range I had in my first apartment in college, except mine was coppertone.  Fixed many a great meal on that tihng.  that dishwasher is a very late White-Westinghouse product.

Thanks for the recommendation Gordon. I'll tell him to try it. I had the same stove in my apartment when I moved in. They eventually had to replace it. Oh and so you know, we live in the same apartment complex lol.

Appnut it says White Consolidated Industries. I take it that's the same company. I'm hoping it works good. He bought a brand new Frigidaire dishwasher for his house he just moved out of. That thing rocked! I gave it my own test once and loaded it with stuff I didn't rinse off at all. It all came out spotless. I hope this one can at least come close.

Peter. I wasn't sure what that was. I know it has the heated dry option which are the buttons in the middle. But next to that there's a small l.e.d. light that says temp-assure, if that's what you were referring to

Peter, Ill be darn.  I owuldn't have believed it either if you hadn't pointed it out.  Vern, if you can get the model number of that dishwasher, we might be able to find a user guide for it on the Frigidaire Web site.  Recently was looking at some old Frigidaire dishwasher manuals form the very end of the GM days and it hd some of the very first WCI produced Frigidaire model's user guides.  If we can find the manual, it might tell us exactl where in the cycle it checks for water temp and delays the timer for it to heat.  that might help the cleaning in that dishwsher for sure.

Although I have to wonder, with that water stain pattern, looks like water could have not drained out and just simply evaporated.  I wonder if the pump is bad.

If you are concerned about leaks or the damage they might do to your floors or the neighbors below be sure to remove the lower panels and check for current or past leak damage from this machine [ these machines were notorious for leaking ]. But on the other hand if this is a rental situation and you are not libel for and damage caused by thier machine just use it and enjoy.

That's normal for that amount of water to be in the sump like that. There should have been a course screen that snapped onto the sump inlet to keep large stuff out. The White Westinghouse that came with my condo had the same wash system. The temp assure will heat water in the main wash and final rinse if it needs to. That wash system is not quiet and it throws about 60 gallons of water onto the dishes. The tower is effective but...the corners like a lot of tower wash systems leave a lot to be desired for tall glasses. And do not overload the upper rack or all the stuff blasted off the dishes will be parked on top of the load. Lightweight stuff should be in the upper rack as the bottom arm has a lot of water and power coming out of it. Plastics will go flying in the lower rack.
If loaded right this dishwasher will clean effectively and without a filter.

Wci!

This manual is on the website take out the last 2 digets. Actually friends of mine moved into a condo in the 90s that was built in the mid 80s they had the model below this one with the rocker switch. They didnt use it long because they said it pissed on the floor. Had the matching Refrigator also pissed on the floor. They were only renting otherwise they would have replaced the appliances. The electric range worked well. Fourtinally thay had their own whirlpool belt drive laundry!

Nope no cap since the wash arm is spring loaded it moves up to contact the tower to drive it that's why there are 2 tabs on that cone. Under the tower should be a rubber seal and it's notched for those tabs to fit in . Once the wash arm contacts the underside of the tower it pressurizes the lower arm and the tower.

Design Flaw

These are the Frigidaire dishwashers that have the spray arm design flaw. The heat from the heating element will cause the ends of the arm to become brittle. Evetually, they will crack open under the pump pressure and spray a fload of water under the door and out into your kitchen.

I think they recalled these arms and replaced them with a plastic arm that had a metal shield to protect it from the heat of the calrod unit.

Beware....

I did an empty test run on the Frigidaire dishwasher today. No leaks, timer and detergent dispenser works fine. And the spray sounded very powerful. The Temp Assure works, the light was lit pretty much the whole time and it did get very hot in there, especially on the dry cycle. I think it's going to be a good performer and hopefully last quite a while.

update on the frigidaire.....

Mark ran his first load through it yesterday. He wasn't impressed with the results of a few items on the top rack. They weren't totally clean. Bottom rack items were great though. I may take apart the wash arms and tower to see if anything may be clogging it. If it's clear and that's the best it'll do, he's going to put a request in for a new dishwasher.
