I helped her with her laundry yesterday while visiting her. The machine worked fine and everything but before the the washer started draining, the pump starting making an odd but quite noise for a few seconds it kinda sounded like it was having trouble starting then it starts making it's normal humming sound. Should I be concerned about the noise?

Might want to check and make sure nothing is stuck in there....inside the hoses or pump itself. Could always be the pump going bad.

Thanks I'll try to tell my Grandpa that but first I need to know how you open the front panel of this washer so I can tell him how to do that too.

the same thing happend to the 2003 ge washer i had in my apt, then all of a sudden the pump quit, i took the pump off and spun the turbine with my finger a couple of times back and forth put it back in and it worked fine, we lived there for another year with no problems, it probably needed a new pump, the pumps on there are remote style meaning there is no belt or anything, it is one unit all together, a pump with a motor attached to it, you would be surprised how EASY they are to replace.

there are 2 clips at the top of the front panel, its better to use a putty knife, stick it through the crack at the top and push the clips inward then pull the panel outward and up, the pump is on your right side, there are three phillips screws holding the pump in place, once those are off the pump come right out.

Panel Clips

Trace an imaginary line from the left and right sides of the lid to the front edge of the washer. The clips are located right underneath the lip. Do use something like the mentioned putty knife or something flat, like a spatula. NOT a screwdriver.
