In our "new" house(we moved in just less than a year ago) it has a loft in the master-bedroom. Steve has a hard time with stairs because of his back, so I took it over as my space. I wanted a space with one of my old tv sets to watch either Perry Mason or Have Gun - Will Travel on, plus also listen to my record albums. I bought these shelve cubes from Wal-Mart. They hold the record albums perfectly. On the one end I have my 1959 Magnavox console. On Friday, the second last piece to be placed up there arrived. That was the couch. My grandparents had owned it for a number of years. Several years back I mentioned to my grandmother if they ever wanted to get rid of it, that I'd be intrested in it. After she passed away this past week, my grandpa, wanted me to go ahead and take it. At first I didn't feel right taking it right away, but he insisted.

The last piece(which is a surprise and not a washing machine related item) has arrived, I just need to do some work on it, before placing it on the cabinet that is lying down on it's side.

The couch was in a home, when my grandparents bought it, in 1989. They had it in the family room in their basement. They acutally used the room as a storage room so the couch had stuff piled on top of it. After inspecting it, I found a tag that said it was manufactured for Montgomery Wards.

That looks awesome.  I really like the cubes.  I could use quite a few!  Was it a special order through Walmart's website?

What an awesome space to call your own! Fantastic vinyl collection, too. A bitch to move, though, aren't they? I pared my collection back from "I've seen record stores with fewer albums" to about 500. Put 1500 CDs up into the iCloud/iMatch and got rid of them, too. I just couldn't take moving them, anymore.

Any chance for a photo of the Magnavox record changer? That console is absolutely beautiful. Maggies from the mid-to-late 1950's are my favorite. I grew up with a '57. Spent hours watching that entrancing changing system as a toddler/kid. They were so accurate; records never failed to drop; the needle always hit its target lead-in groove. Even the 45-rpm spindle worked like a champ.

Enjoy your entertainment loft! Looks like the dog has already given it the seal of approval.

Yes,I would like to see a TT money shot of that Magnavox Hi-fi entertainment center-would like to see its tuner/amp.Beautiful unit!!!!The record cases remind me of a radio station record library--during the days they played records.I thinned down my LP,too during a few moves. They and books get HEAVIER on each move!!!Neat Dog!!!Like "His Masters Voice"!!!

The sofa reminds me a great deal of the living room set my Aunt Eloise had. They were purchased in '71 when they built a new house after Hurricane Camille.

The old Kroehler sofa went to the family room. It wasn't ruined in the hurricane because it had floated!

Thanks for the photo of the record changer, Justin! Ours looked exactly like yours with the white rubber mat, the short-stemmed speed/changer controls, and the record stabilizer with a hook.

Update: My sister suggested our Magnavox was purchased in '57, but I'm beginning to doubt that. I know it was in the house before I was born in January of 1959, as I have a photo of a newborn Frigilux in the arms of his godparents with the stereo in the background. I've seen some Maggies online and thought the '57s had a record sensor, rather than the elaborate record changing system in which the tonearm made contact with the record stack on the spindle in order to determine exactly where to drop the needle. Ours looked exactly like your '59. Ours was a '58, possibly?

Any Magnavox experts care to weigh in help solve the mystery?[this post was last edited: 9/28/2015-18:28]
