Hi all,

I've had an amazing 24 hrs! This time lastnight I got word of a Twin Tub from a nice lady called Bridget. She hooked me up with the owner who likes carboot sales etc. and at first he thought it was a Hotpoint and I thought it would have been a 9404 or something 80's. Then he mentioned the lids are white, I was puzzled and I remembered after the phonecall that the 1420 had white lids! However that was not the case and he looked at the machine and read "Hoovermatic Deluxe", instantly assumed that it would be the later tacky plastic ones from the 80's until I asked him to look at the back for the model number... Reads back "3314L"! I was shocked and I was speechless (fair enough they are common over there on UK turf but here in Ireland Deluxe models weren't the must have thing)! He mentioned it was working when last used and she is a little rough looking but none the less I jumped at the free offer! Gran had this model and this model also matches my 3102E Single Tub. So this morning came and I went 20 mins up the road to collect. When the door opened I was shocked that she was a bit rougher than I expected but I'll leave the opinion of "is she restorable" to you lot. I stripped her through the day and just a few simple bits left to do with it until I can sand and spray it.

Boo boo's are as follows:
Complete intrenal and external pipework needs to be replaced.
Motors rusty externally but seem clean inside. Wash motor sticking and so is timer but the timer appears to be the cause.
1 dial needs replacing.
Spin mount and motor mount rubbers need replaced.
Bellows possibly.
Castors.
Pulsator shaft puntured through pulsator and pulley stuck on.
I've probably missed out a thing or two but you get the picture.

Now does anybody know how to take off the top part of the Spinner and take the spin can out?

I need the service manual and intruction manual too.

So here's to the first Hoovermatic Deluxe in Irish collector's hands

WILL BE A CHALLENGE THOUGH!

Regards, James.

Good luck.....

....to you, it looks like it will take all of your time, skill and luck in finding any spare parts you find you need. I hope you get it up and running :-) It is a sorry sight right now.

Think outside of the box

I've had my fair share of brining back to life a sad and sorry washing machine such as your hoover.

Improvise and you may just have her up and running sooner than you think with only half the effort but still as good as any.
Seals, pipes and belts are all available at your local hardware warehouse. It is just a matter of finding the right fit. I've even sealed a Hoovermatic pump by cutting out a seal from a large suction cap (the type used for shower soap dishes and such)
For pipes you will need to look at various fittings, couplings, U bends, Y bends all found in the garden irrigation department.

The pulsator and all that goes with it will challenge you for sure, no easy way around that. Although you may be surprised at how well the bond holds up between Epoxy and Bakelite. And on that note..

I wish you all the best in your Hoovermatic restoration.

The same model my nanna had before she went automatic. I absolutley loved using that twin tub. The auto rinse function was my favourite part. The pulsator wash action was far more efficient at cleaning in 4 minutes than the central agitator. Emptying the wash tub was far quicker & less hastle than its hotpoint & servis rivals & i also prefered the thermostat heat settings. This model out of all hoover twin tubs has to be the best one.

Update!

Hi all,

Thank you for your support. I have been spending full days at work on this machine since I got it and the results are turning out nice!

The respray went well, and I'm only an amateur! Any small defects in the paint are not even noticeable at a distance of 1 metre! However I didn't want to make this machine look brand new so I'm happy that those little defects are there so that I can call them "age marks"! I would show you pictures but I want to get the light cut polish on first to gloss it up. The fascias on these things don't keep well but I have to live with the state it's in. Shined up well though. I hope to get her back together for Saturday.

James.
