My New Sunbeam Coffee Maker

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Probably won't bother using it for awhile, intend on using the C50 until it finally croaks, and or have a Cory automatic vac pot can bring out if needed. However it is nice to have this for a back up. Wonder if it brews at the correct temperature? Oh well, time will tell.

one to four cup?

Oh, my dear, that is a cute machine but it would only serve to make me angry. 4 cups is a drop in the bucket to my morning consumption! I think I know someone who could fix your C50, drop me an email if you are interested. :-)

Two to four cups is about as much as we can handle in an hour or less, the amount of time one likes to keep brewed coffee hanging around. Even with keeping in a glass lined "air" hot/cold thingy, brewed coffee starts to break down after about 30 minutes or so, at least this is what one has read.

Am not sure about repairing the C50, but will shoot an email later. As stated in the proper thread at the time, because of the brewing method design, keeping the inside of the lower pot "burnt coffee" free takes a good scrubbing every now and then, and even so there is a layer of "brown" that no amount of rubbing will shift. Suppose one could really go to town, but that might remove the inner coating (or what is left anyway), of the pot as well.

Depending upon price for repair, am thinking it might be best to start with a new or nearly new pot, one that does not have a layer of residue built up that is.

Thanks for the offer again, and will be in touch.

According To The Instruction Booklet

Printed in 1978. So there you are.

However this unit is made in Taiwan, not the famed Chicago plant as with other Sunbeam applinaces.

Show or go is always a hard decision with NIB vintage items, however at some point one has to either fish or cut bait. I mean don't want to end up one of those persons whose estate is full of things their heirs don't appreciate and sell off for nothing.

Have gobs of vintage NIB vacuum coffee things and they have mostly sat sitting as "show", many still in the boxes they arrived in.

Small Portions

I too also prefer to brew coffee in small portions. After 15 minutes in the pot, I dump it out and make fresh. Friends think I am crazy.

First Impressions

Took everything out of the box to wash the pot and such and sort of thought: "cheap Asian tat", but decided to run a test brew to wash out the water chamber.

Unit has a pump to move water from the chamber to drip spout, and "drip" it does, one slow drip after another. On the bright side, this thing does brew some *HOT* water.

After the clean/test brew ran though, took the carafe off the warming section and inserted a thermometer, reading was about 175F, not to shabby.

The Coffeemaster should never be scrubbed. Any residue that cooks on should be removed by either running the brewer through a cycle with non-enzyme dishwasher detergent in the upper bowl or just heating water and dishwasher detergent to a boil in the lower bowl.
