My trusty DE308 gets a 906 control panel

I've had a DE906 in my garage for a while,it's in nice condition but it's almond,I was going to swap the perfect white top from my 308 and paint the rest,but after reading threads about how the electronic models can be tempermental I decided to keep my old faithful timed model and just give it the lighted control panel,the ballest fell apart so its not lighted yet, It was an easy swap,the two temperature control buttons fit perfect in the space where the 906 has four.just had to drill two holes for the timer,as it mounts vertical,the 308 control panel has the holes for the 906 timer already,so I will put it back together and not scrap it. If you swapped to a 906 control panel, how did you hide the row of pushbuttons so well?

Sorry for the confusion,I just checked the model # on the donor machine and it is a LDE 808 not a 906,here's a pic of the old panel,the 808 has four small push buttons and the 308 has two larger ones but the opening in the panel is the same size, The gold part of the new panel is in perfect shape,What could I use on it to keep it that way? Mark

re: what to "use on" the gold: If it's the same as the blue on the 606 panel, it's just paint, and will rub off if you rub too hard. I'd say just wipe gently with a slightly damp microfiber car detail towel, or other soft cloth.

Keep Pre-Treatments Away From It!

I had to repaint the gold on my 'Tags when I got them; both the washer and the dryer had the gold worn completely away in places. The culprit was Spray 'n Wash, which is just as good at dissolving paint as it is at dissolving stains. Most pre-treatments are harmful to paint; I've seen Whirlys (which often don't have porcelain tops) with their paint stripped to bare metal by Spray 'n Wash. I do all my pretreating well away from my 'Tags.
