I have a friend who is remodeling her kitchen. She has an old Chambers Model B in the garage that she uses as a backup and for canning (needs a T-stat rebuild and cosmetics), but she needs a new stove for her kitchen. She will be replacing a POS old Jenn-Aire installed in the kitchen island and double GE wall oven set up - the ovens have issues that will cost too much to repair. She wants to reclaim the island space and go with a stand alone range. Eventually she wants to find a nice antique stove such as another Chambers (in light blue) that she can spend time restoring but until then her immediate needs for her family come first. She wants a reliable yet simple gas stove - no computer or digital bells and whistles.

She has found a 30" NXR gas range sold by A.J. Madison (see link below). It has German valves, ignitors, and burners. It is pricey but seems to meet her needs. Does anyone here know anything about NXR stoves? Are they reliable, do they have any issues? She is concerned about parts and service should it break down (does it take weeks or months as I've seen with LG and others?). It looks like a simple straight forward stove but has electronic ignition - I've seen several posts that say the electronic ignition on even high-end stoves will go out in about 5 years, does this hold true for the NXR?

She will build her cabinets with the ability to eventually install a 38" to 40" vintage stove but due to time issues wants a new one for now.

To me it doesn't make much sense to spend that much money on a off-brand range if she really wants a restored vintage range. A client of mine is moving into her newly remodeled house tomorrow complete with a restored old gas range. I've only seen photos since it wasn't installed last week when I checked on the house, but IIRC she spent about $4000 on it - she bought it outright from a restoration company. One advantage of doing this is the new custom cabinets fit the range correctly.

I wouldn't be surprised if the NXR range is actually made in China regardless of the claims for German this or German that. Nothing wrong with that if it's well made, but finding parts for an oddball appliance can be difficult. I once talked to a local woman who bought a house with a very handsome DeLonghi range. Certainly everyone knows DeLonghi's line of small appliances, but it turned out that DeLonghi didn't actually make the range, just rebranded it. It had a problem with the door springs breaking and tweaking the hinges. They were only available from one local service company who had to order them from New York. It was a special order and took weeks, during which time the oven wasn't really safe as the door didn't seal. People may like to put down Viking, Wolf and Thermador ranges as being overpriced but you can get parts and service for them in a timely manner.

GE GAS AND/OR DUAL FUEL

GE has constantly made great ranges gas or electric. I looked and found two different but nice models you may or may not be interested in. the first model (JGB750EEFES) is a 30" gas, dual speed convection model with a nice price ($1,299.00) and the second model (P2B940SEFSS)is a dual fuel model where the sealed burners are gas and the oven is a true dual speed convection model. It's MSRP (manufacturers suggested retail price) is ($2,099.00). There may also be a xcash rebate going on now. When I was working in retail, there was always some sort of rebate going on with GE and Hotpoint brands. They also make slide in models for islands and drop ins as wellboth with similar features but higher priced. Good luck!!!

I'll pass all of these recommendations along to her - and have her look into the Brown ranges. She is mainly gathering info and asking advice right now.

She ultimately wants (several years from now realistically) a light blue Chambers Model C. She is building the cabinets so they can easily accommodate the new 30" and the older Chambers when she gets one. She may spend up to $2000 on a quality new stove but plans to restore the Chambers herself and that is why she doesn't want to buy a restored one for $4000+ from a restoration shop for the kitchen project.

Tell her to save her money and stay away from Stainless steel..I LOVE the way they look for five secs then they are a mess bad there is always finger prints and everything all over them.

We have had no problems with our L.G. Gas Range or even our Wolf range that has been working fine for years can't say the same for the Subzero Fridge it has had problems.

We use Brown Stoves in all of the rentals we get a huge discount I go through Cleveland well the By-Pass that heads to the farm

the good thing is parts are always got really quick but stoves are not like other things. My Gas Water heater is gone and I am going

to install one myself and try to save me about a 1000 bucks and cross my fingers I don't blow myself up.
