I have a matching pair of ‘73 Hotpoint washer and dryer.

I recently replaced the FilterFlo pump and now the washer is operating like a champ. Unfortunately, the dryer has started squeaking. When cold, I can manually spin the drum with no noise. Once hot, it squeaks while operating and squeaks when manually spinning the drum.

Unit looks like new, hoping this is as simple a fix as the washer pump. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Hi, I'm not the most experienced member here but I think maybe the rear drum bearing needs lubrication or replacement. When gets hot it expands and generate more friction.

Hope it may help... and not be too wrong.

P.s. Bob I'm your fan, your answers in other threads had helped me a lot. Thank you.

Most likely, the rear bearing is worn out, if you caught it early enough, it just needs the little plastic Teflon sleeve, once the sleeve wears away it becomes a metal to metal condition and squeaks quite a bit. The bearing does not normally get lubricated.

The front drum slides could also be starting to fail. If you want to use the machine regularly it should be disassembled and cleaned Front and rear bearings inspected as well as the bushings for the idler pulley. Also clean the motor very carefully so the motor doesn’t overheat from the buildup.

John.
