Need some speedy advice please?

Hi folks!Help!!!!!
I am having an issue with my Speed Queen da9101 washer.I believe the brake pad is worn out as it does not stop spinning every few spin cycles.I have ordered the part from point and click appliance repair but I would like some advice as to what the process to change it is. I'm no expert, but certainly it must stop spinning at some point, or are are you saying the machine gets stuck in spin mode (which would point to an issue with the timer)?

WASHER ADVICE

76SQ the first thing to do when asking advice is to tell us what machine you are talking about. Even though I am a repairman I don't always recognize all model  #s. How old is the machine, pictures are nice. And if you want anyone here to take you seriously put a name on your profile etc. [ you can even make something up if your name is that bad LOL ].

watch this video first....pay attention to the braking/slowing down after the first spin.....if its like this....its normal.....

John he has a SQ solidtub....reversing motor......its a spring loaded brake that releases during spin, but not a hard brake....more like a drag effect, that slows the tub down to a stop once the motor shuts off.........its located inside the bearing area.....your about talking a whole teardown, removing the agitation shaft, motor, pump and tranny to get to this piece...and maybe even the solid tub too....
but I don't see the point..once the motor stops it should coast to a stop eventually.....

even my banging solenoid machine takes a long time to coast to a stop......and it has a dragging brake just below the fluid drive....

SQ BRAKE

If it is a late 1970s machine without a lid lock it should stop very quickly when the lid is opened or machine turned off. Martin you are correct this is a BIG repair on this machine, if it works OK leave it alone. However some times when these machines stop to fill for rinse the tub is coasting so fast that 1/2 the rinse water is thrown out of the wash tub before the tub comes to rest which ends up causing an under fill in the rinse or in the case of the models with the metered fill they start agitating with almost no water in the tub.

I have that exact machine in the video....I got it from Ben.....so I am kinda used to this with SQ's......and mine does not have the locking lid.......

I had one years ago, with a tight brake....that squeeked with every stroke of the agitator, from the clothes movement......I rather have it spinning freely.....

I know it will be a pain to change but......

I would like it very much if you guys ESPECIALLY YOU MARTIN!WINK! Would give me a run down of the process and any other problems or parts I may want to purchase or tools to have on hand in case of complications.This is if I DO decide to Attempt the operation...My dad will help me He is more mechanically inclined than I.We just are looking for advice of those who are familiar with the inner workings of this type of vintage Speed Queen.By the way it is the Speed Queen in thread 35545 if any of you need more information on it.It is a McGraw Edison DA9101 from the 1970's.The problem is that it keeps on spinning quite often until it eventually runs out of steam.The motor has long shut off before this so it is not a timer issue and up until recently it stopped immediately on a dime everytime.Thanks,Brian.

we can guide you thru....for the most part......but for detail pics, check out amazon.com.....and search for SQ repair manuals......I got 2 from there, thanks to Malcolm's advice.....very detailed instructions.....one of the books covers a variety of different models.....it really helped me out, follow step by step as to the instructions, and it works.....

I don't know why that did not occur to me in the first place...Probably because I was focused on other things given that I was forced to move out of our house and back to my hometown suddenly after my partner decided to persue a career in Missouri and not consider that I might not want to go along..... So I shall see if I can locate a repair manual for my machine.In the meantime if anyone would like to comment further I would appreciate it very much.PS That is when this problem started with the washer, after I moved it.
