need to get rid of some stuff here

I am moving in the next year and I need to get rid of a good portion of my appliances. I really have no interest in most of them anymore. it was fun for a few years, I collected a great collection given the time I was into it and I spent way too much money!

first to go is my frig spin tube dishwasher in sunny yellow. I paid $200.00 and drove to Chicago for it and it works great but it's not something I would ever use anymore. I will sell it for 100 bucks! and turquoise dude (paul) if you are out there you have first dibs on it if you want it since you ask me about it last year.

I have a beautiful maytag wringer in great shape I paid 100 for and will sell for 50 bucks. I have a Kenmore wringer I will give away. I have a speed queen wringer that leaks I have to get rid of that I will pitch if no one wants it. it's free ofcourse.

I have a maytag top loader (from late 60's) that works fine that I use on occasion I will sell for 50 bucks.

I may have my bendix front loader I will give away if the person interested in it now doesn't want it.

I am thinking of selling one of my rollermatics, the coppertone set that I drove to tenn. to get and I paid 200 bucks for the set. if I thought someone really wanted it I would sell the set for the same 200 I paid for it. I have never worked on either one and it's been about 5 or 6 years I think since I bought them. I do remember I plugged it in and the motor just hummed. but then I have six rollermatics I have worked on and when I got them none of them worked so I am pretty sure it could be brought back to life. the dryer I have never touched.

I've still got a few kitchenaid front loaders I would probably give away if someone wanted them.

when I do move I am going to Columbus from cinti. and am going to rent my house out here in cinti. I will keep some of my appliances in the one spare room I intend to keep for storage, giving whoever rents this house a great deal on rent in exchange for me keeping one room for storage. other appliances will be put in the shed in the backyard and ones already out there will be pitched I guess.

I could probably part with my flare stove with the double oven too if someone was interested.

I just have no interest in old appliance collecting anymore and don't see that changing in the future. it was fun but it's over for me!

a member contacted me and asked if I knew how much it would cost to ship an appliance, the maytag wringer I believe it was. like an idiot I guess I deleted the e mail thinking I answered it before I did. sorry! when I was having things shipped it ran anywhere from 200 to 500 bucks, not cheap. much cheaper to rent a truck for a day or so and take an appliance road trip! more fun too!

jon, the tombstone I sold a couple years ago to a member here in cinti. the bendix I have is an earlier one I got from a member in Hamilton ohio. I do have a member interested in it plus a second one if the first one passes. I am giving it away.

paul, the spin tube is yours.

I also have contacted mike (dishwasher crazy) and offered him a couple items I would love to see go to a loving home. most notably my speed queen solid tub washer.

I also have a beautiful modern maid impeller dishwasher with a top roto rack that I offered mike first chance at. and I have several other dishwashers as well I could let go.

as far as my rollermatics go I am not ready to get rid of them yet, still very attached to them, with the exception of the 1965 coppertone set I mentioned previously. I haven't really had anybody interested in that set so I will most probably change my mind and hang on to them.

it's not that I don't like any of them anymore it's just that my desire to have a super collection is gone! some of the one's I have I wish to keep like my g.e. mobile maids, my sears lady Kenmore toploader with roto rack, my rollermatics, and most of my kitchenaids. but I need to get rid of some also.

anything anyone is interested in has had a thread done on it by me somewhere in the past on this great site! my user names were either "rollermatic" or the earlier "soberleaf" when I first joined.

I know everyone wants pics, I would too. but as mentioned some of my stuff is tucked away behind other appliances, I have 4 rollermatic washers, a bendix a late model frig front loader, and about 20 dishwashers all in a room in my house that is about 12 ft by 20 ft. so I can't just walk over to one a take a pic of it! but anything I have has been posted on this site at some point with lots of pics of it when I got it. I know that coppertone set was posted, that's the one I drove to tenn to get and the truck died on the way so I took a greyhound back, rented a truck and went back again for it. I'm cautious about getting rid of that coppertone set, I know how hard rollermatics are to work on, they are a bitch to say the least and parts are almost totally unavailable! I would not even consider selling that set to someone who wasn't experienced with frig washers and knew what they were undertaking. I think it will run again, my others did (and do) but I'm not sure. let me know please when you get more info on your trip to ohio.

unfortunately that coppertone Frigidaire set is on the back wall of that room with everthing else in front of it! should I find a buyer that I felt would be a good match that would persuade me to even sell it I would be able to get it out of there fine ofcourse but it will be work.

I never had a unimatic, or any other old Frigidaire washers, just the rollermatics. we had one when I was a kid and I loved that washer so naturally that is the washer I remember and wanted to collect when I started collecting appliances. I still think they are the most unique washer ever made with that jet age agitator and small blue tub. to me they are 1960's all the way! jet age!

yes shipping is way too high I always felt, I paid almost 500 bucks one time to get an old hotpoint dishwasher shipped to me. how ridiculous was that! I was a fool! never again! I can see $200 or so but 500! unreal! and funny, even though I love that old hotpoint portable dishwasher that I paid almost 500 to have shipped I never did a thread on that one or showed it to anyone on this site. it's in my kichen and I use it frequently, maybe I will do a post on it here soon! I paid enough for the damn thing!

as far as kitchenaids go I will take a full inventory of what I have and what i would part with and get back to you.

funny, I think my problem is I got too much too quickly, I started in 2009 and by 2014 or so I had so many old appliances that I felt overwhelmed. and guilty about spending all that money when it could have gone to putting a new roof on my house! I could have probably bought a new roof with the money I spent collecting. I'm not broke (yet) nor do I ever see myself being that way and I have a decent job (matter of opinion I guess) and I've always been good with my money but I've always been a very practical person when it comes to money.so looking back on my appliance extravaganza spending it seems almost shocking that I could have dropped 200 here, 300 there, rented trucks etc. just to pick up old appliances. but then again I look at them and they are beautiful and they do represent a time when things were made with pride! with flair! with class! now it's all white, stainless, smudge free stainless, who cares! it's boring! and they are all shit! give me coppertone or avocado any day over this junk they peddle off as appliances today! give me a washer that will last 50 years and still not leak! today you're lucky if you get 5 years!

so I guess I still do love most of my appliances and maybe by thinning out the herd here and getting good homes for some of favorites that I will never really use I will be able to enjoy the one's I have left more.

and lastly I am not doing this to make money, I don't need to sell off a washer to pay a doctor bill etc. some of my machines I will give away if I find a good home for them. but then again some of the more unique rare machines I do want to get a modest price for, depending on what I went thru to get it in the first place. if I had to make 2 trips and take a greyhound and rent a truck then naturally I don't want to give that one away! but again all my prices will be more than fair! I paid about 700 bucks for my first solid tub washer! I drove to grand rapids in a rented truck, paid a member $1500.00 and loaded that truck up as full as I could get it with that first rollermatic and about 10 dishwashers I think! again, what was I thinking! but looking back it was my first and favorite road trip so I gotta see it as some people would see a vacation! what the hell, I did it! I enjoyed it! who cares about the money, we'll probably all be blown up in 10 years anyway so I might as well enjoy those memories of early appliance collecting and treasure them! and when the bombs start going off I can "duck and cover" inside one of my rollermatics or toploaders!

I live in sweden and would just Love to have an old Maytag toploader. I just bought a new maytag washer and had this shipped overseas. not the same as an old vintage, thats what i really would like,
maybe some here would help pack an old appliance And send to virginiabeach? In Virginia at virginiabeach there is a company that helps shipping things to europé, with taxes and stuff like that. So i got like an home adress in virginiabeatch. Maybe some day?
My brother inlaw was very intrested in My new toploadwasher i got home this spring, Damn how Quick it is! Grease wash action, And dose Alot of laundry in no time. I said to him and My sister that they can buy the washer, when i get My old vintage maytag 60-70s washer . most wishes for an a806 washer , but any old maytag in that style would do.
over her is only boring crapy frontloading shit. i hope i never have to have one again.

Put it on a pallet, strap it securely, and then wrap it with some sort od padding, like old carpet pad, a washer box, etc.

that just went out. it's a later model with a plastic tub, and not one of the ones that used a belt drive. think it's a bit later.

pump motor went out last week, it was my daily machine in my kitchen but I'm not going to repair it. it will definitely be put out at the curb this spring so if anyone needs something off it, racks, timer etc. please let me know. can get pics easily as it's on my back porch right now.

Shipping appliances withing contentinal USA is one thing

But to Sweden or elsewhere in Europe you are on your own. *LOL*

Best suggestion is to find someone moving house on someone else's dime (military, diplomatic, etc...) and see if they have room in any of their crates. Otherwise the only other option is to arrange international shipping via container. You cannot imagine how expensive that will be.

Back in the days when ships were the main transport across the Atlantic it was easier to move house (literally) as all the stuff either came with you or was shipped separately. Today most cargo goes by air where weight and size matter.

If you can fill a container then rates by ship or air may be slightly better. That or you have to seek out various services that specialize in doing less than container full shipments (they just bundle a bunch of orders together in order to fill a container) and work from there. Oh and there will be import, export duties and so forth tacked on.

Overseas Shipping

Just be very careful with any valuables! I cannot stress this enough.

Some folks I know of with the USAF lost a significant portion of their possessions when several crates were lost to the Pacific ocean during relocation from Australia. I don't think they ever got the full story on what *really* happened.
All I know is the crates/shipping containers fell off the ship, presumably in rough seas or due to be secured incorrectly.

My own friends (again with USAF) had items which had fallen victim to mold and water damage (bedding/mattresses) on the ride from Australia to Texas.

Presumably FedEx or UPS would be safer, but hideously expensive.

Shipping Containers Overseas

Problems like these are extremely RARE, I am sure very few containers fall off the ships, LOL. My partner has had all kinds of containers of auto parts  and even complete cars shipped with never a problem, probably 1/2 of what we buy and use are shipped this way.

Your original post mentioned that you have the 40" Flair and may want to part with it. Do you know the year and the model (Custom Imperial vs. Custom Deluxe) of your model? Shipping a Maytag Wringer

For what it is worth have been trying to get a vintage ironer shifted from Iowa to NYC via U-Ship. Nothing < $300 has been quoted so far.....

U-Ship has tightened their ship up which has gotten rid of some low ball but often questionable shippers. However OTOH those that remain tend to be pricey. Best one can hope for is a major shipper such as a trucker or mover happens to be near or going through where the item is located and also same for the destination.

You are also seeing Craters & Freighters along with other major players in the shipper market decline to take jobs that are out of their franchise area. That is if it costs them more in time and money to go out of their way to fetch something, they won't.

Depending upon your tolerance for risk there is always Home Direct USA, but I personally wouldn't recommend.
