Hi all!

Looking for a Maytag upper outer tub clamp - part number 200846. This is a discontinued part. Any idea where I can get one? I can’t even find a used washer for parts. I saw the “appliance graveyard” in Glendale Arizona listed in another thread, will try to give them a call in the morning.

My wife and I are the original owners of a 1988 Maytag LA 612 top load washer with matching gas dryer (LDG512 series 05). Do not want to give these up ever! .

The upper outer tub clamp ring failed due to an unrecognized small leak over the years that rusted it through.
The washing machine is flawless otherwise. I jury rigged a crazy solution that has the leak down to almost tolerable (see photos). With a new clamp (and seal which is still available OEM, go figure) it will be ready for another 25 yrs service!

Thanks!

Have you removed the clamp and the top cover for inspection? You may have a rusted upper tub lip and installing another clamp and new triangular seal may not correct the problem.

Ah thanks qsd-dan. Good point.

Haven’t removed the top cover, but do see a short segment of rust along the lower edge of the gasket, right where it had been leaking. Looks fairly superficial but can’t vouch for what’s deeper. Definitely raises the concern that a new gasket and clamp may still leak. But, willing to chance it if I can find a clamp, maybe do some refurbishment.

Otherwise, haven’t pulled the top since we still use the washer, and if I can’t find a clamp we’ll probably have to buy a new washer anyway.

I did find a long (6’) hose clamp kit on amazon that could wrap the tub and maybe act as a replacement for the clamp, but since it is a flat metal strip it would be a sketchy fix, or involve the original clamp in some way so it would properly seat the gasket. Meh.

Thanks!
John

All fixed! Thanks everyone, and a special thanks to goatfarmer for sending me the upper outer tub clamp, which completely stopped all leakage. I did buy a new gasket too, but since it’s bone dry I’ll hang on to that as a spare and watch closely. 1988 Maytag save!
