The kitchen was divested of many things in the Great Downsizing of July 2017, one being the KitchenAid blender. A blender gets infrequent use in my house, but came to the conclusion that not even the Cuisinart food processor can take its place for certain tasks. Checked out America's Test Kitchen and Consumer Reports; ATK top-rated the Breville Hemisphere Control BBL605XL ($200) in their 'midpriced' ratings. It also scored well at CR, coming in after the Vitamix line and a few others.
Have only used it twice, but both products (a Jell-O/cream cheese/fruit concoction and salsa verde) were silky smooth and required no container-scraping. The container went into the dishwasher with no discernible damage to it. Plan to make cashew butter this weekend; that will be a good test. ATK noted that the Breville has held up to heavy use in their kitchen.
The gold-standard (in terms of performance) Vitamix line had my attention, but I wouldn't use it often enough to justify the cost.
First impressions of the Breville are very positive.
