Does anyone know of a new dishwasher brand that has a soft food masticating disposer for the drain instead of, or in addition to, a manual clean drain filter? I don't care how noisy it may be.

Correct, to an extent. The Maytag does have a small removable filter, but will only catch large items. For instance, I have never had anything found in my filter. So a majority of items are pulled right through to the filter. The Maytag does have a '4-Blade Chopper', but won't really do much. The filter that matters the most is behind the chopper and is not able to be cleaned.
Though, I will say, I would not hesitate to recommend this machine to someone.

I have a Maytag from 2014 (no removable filter and it has a chopper) in fact, I think it's point voyager...It's been a good dishwasher other than the fact that I can no longer use rinse aid because the dispenser leaks. It must be a whirlpool thing because this is 3 different whirlpool dishwashers that I've experienced this with around the 5-7 year mark. Appnut said his Kenmore built whirlpool did the same thing..
From what it looks like they have redesigned the rinse aid/detergent dispenser..Maybe that won't happen with this new design? I don't know.
I used to say Maytag would be my first choice for a dishwasher. While I still love them, I'm starting the think I want a dishwasher with a removable filter. I can't access my Maytag filter without taking the machine apart.

Honestly with today's machines and detergent I see little need for a chopper any longer. My last few DWs had one but it did not improve performance much. My current KA does nor have one and it out cleans anything else I've owned. All I do is a quick scrape if that and out come spotless dishes. Of course it is a quality DW, as are Bosch and others and not low end- that's a different story.

Apart from a few in the 70s, European dishwashers haven’t to my knowledge had food disposers……and it’s never been an issue…….. I scrape lightly, and I mean lightly! Very happy to load plates still with some spaghetti, peas, mashed potato etc on. Never rinse, never soak burnt on ovenware. I check the filter around 3-4 times a year if I remember. It’s never been a problem, dishes clean, machine clean, no doors. Just my personal experience. I can’t imagine I’m my circumstance what benefit a food grinder would bring.

The drain filter in my TOL KitchenAid needs constant cleaning. I do use a spatula to scrape my dishes and cookware off before loading. I was told by one of the service techs that the drain filter's biggest job is to keep broken glass or other damaging items out of the pump.
Modern detergents NEED dirty dishes. The various cleaning agents cling to the left on food and dissolve it. If you rinse or clean them too well performance suffers.
I put stuff in my KA just lightly scraped if that, and only need to clean my filter once a month or so -if I think about it. Only use Cascade P+ pods and rinse aid. Spotless loads every time.

Ok there's a discrepancy here

It may come down to the fact I don't focus on the filter. I may glance down there but if there is only minor stuff down there I know from experience that it will dissolve and be washed away. I if physically checked it every load odds are I would find something, just as I did looking at the chopper in my old GE. There is always some food remains somewhere in any DW.
IMHO it isn't just the modern detergents but also the fact that today's dishwashers just like todays front loaders or HE toploaders use much less water and a lot more time. More concentrated detergents in less water acting over a longer period of time is what does the cleaning. Which is why I think it's foolish to increase the amount of water in any of these new machines based on personal feelings that they cannot clean, or will clean better, if you put more water in.
It also depends on what one defines as "clean" in the filter.
Seeing what some people find in their grinder setup DWs during teardowns on YouTube, I wouldn't trust that kind of DW any more or less than a filter.
Your filter won't be 100% clean ever.
Especially - depending on what the load you washed just had in it - some finer stuff can just get caught by the fine mesh and won't rinse away after a single wash.
But given that stuff is in scalding hot water and harsh detergent for hours on end, I don't think there is much if any danger to it.

I haven't run my DW in a week, haven't cleaned the filter in a few months.
That's what it looks like right now, if I remember to do so I'll show it after a cycle ran tomorrow.

Yes it couldn’t be easier….. rinse under the cold tap for a few seconds and replace. As previously mentioned in practice this needs doing very infrequently. I’d compare the workload to topping up the rinse-aid and certainly less than refilling the salt reservoir!
