New Dishwasher (R.I.P. Weezer)

A year and a half ago after living with a Hotpoint BOL HDA2000 From the 90's, I went to my landlord to ask if I could get a better dishwasher since I cook and need something that would clean. He graciously said yes and told me to let him know once I got it, that he would have his guys put it in for me and write an addendum to my lease so that I could take it with me should I ever move out. Meet Weezer. Just like her movie counter-part stubborn, and opinionated. I do believe that her sensors never worked correctly as the cycles would never adjust for heavier soils and her rinse aid dispenser never worked correctly. Her best cycle for passing dishes as clean was pots and pans. Two weeks ago, after cooking all day and running her for the 3rd time, in the middle of her main wash, SHE STOPPED!!. I checked on her only to find all the cycle and option lights lighted up and the child lock light blinking. I flipped off the breaker and let her sit for 5 mins. Turn the breaker back on and it looked like she was resetting herself, but no. Same thing. At this point I knew the main board was toast. I finally got her to drain and unloaded her.

Welcome Clairee!!

After living one long week without a dishwasher and scouring the internet for a good replacement. I stumbled across a Whirlpool scratch and dent center here on the north side of Dallas. It's a Whirlpool WFD760SADF. She's beautiful. I've had her for a week now and I'm just in love. The Total Coverage spray arm truly works and She adjust her cycle time on the fly. 49dba, I have to get real close to see if she is running. I've given her some tough challenges and just like her movie counter part, she laughs in the face of turmoil and makes everything sparkle and shiny.

She's beautiful!!! I have the same machine, the WDT920, only difference being that your panel is on the front where mine is up top/hidden. You'll adore this dishwasher! I've had mine since December 2015 and have yet to ever "need" to clean the filters, though I have occasionally just for the fun of taking the parts out and giving it TLC. I've yet to have a speck left over from even the nastiest of loads aside from a stray piece of rice in the silverware basket now and then. Whirlpool truly has outdone themselves with this machine in style, performance, and build quality, and from the looks at the competition on the market today, there's not another brand that I'd even think about touching. I wish you many happy cycles for years to come with your new beauty!

Thank you for re-posting that link. It was your videos that swung me to get this whirlpool. I did truly want a Bosch like I had in Florida. I loved that machine. When I looked at prices for used and/or scratch and dent, it was out of my price range at this time. I do Truly feed privileged and honored to have this dishwasher. I am currently collect the 3rd load. So far I've used the Senor cycle and the Normal cycle. I DO JUST LOVE THIS MACHINE!!

I had a very similar WP

dishwasher lasted April 2005 to June 2014. Mine was somewhat lower end as the control panel only took up the right side only, nothing on the left side. It never really malfunctioned as far as the control board - it was this horrible loud grinding sound and the smell of a burning or hot motor - I'm the only one that ever used it and I'm super careful not to load anything that can get stuck in the grinder - although possible, I'm almost sure it was nothing stuck in the grinder - I think the motor was dying....I luckily was able to get it to drain, then replaced it with a Maytag which I love. Your new dishwasher looks great..

the top photo

was about a $350 dollar machine. My folks lasted a few years before the door latch switch, then control board failed.
Pre "point voyager" design.
They replaced it with a low end Bosch. After 3 years, detergent dispenser broke, then after 5, the board fried.
My sister is there alone now. She doesn't need a D/W that only lasts a few years.

good luck with your new DW - it it a great machine and I work at home depot and sell a lot of these models. the only thing I dont like about all of them is the very long cycle times. That is why I hold on to my GE tall tub from 2003 because it runs only 80 mins. and is a great cleaner.

Vacerator - the top photos are of a Point Voyager machine. That particular machine was actually right in the middle of the Voyager's time. "Pre 'point voyager'" would have been the PowerClean, which that one most definitely is not. The new WP units are now the Tahoe, from what I've seen in schematics and access documents, but they typically go by the names "resource saver", though for these recent machines with the TC arm I think TotalCoverage is a good platform name for them now.

Haven't done a "BobLoad" yet, but I will tell you that a baking dish that I made baked chicken and rice, a stainless steel fry pan that I made smothered pork chops that got a little dark brown on the bottom (on purpose) both in the same load, no Target clean, Just Sensor cycle with heated dry. Everything came out spotless. The stainless steel pan looks like it just came out of the box from the store.

So lets see what she can do.

This is by no means a "BobLoad". But I do want to see how this all will work. So here is the load I'm running right now. Nothing has been pre-rinsed. We have the Broccoli Rice casserole dish. Then we have a cookie sheet that I baked two chicken breast on. I did line the sheet with aluminum foil, but it leaked through and baked to the cookie sheet. The smaller fry pans in front was just scrambled egg and the other I used was to fry up a piece of ham. They cycle chosen was Sensor with heated dry option only. and Cascade Platinum for detergent. Will post the results in the morning.

And the results are in!!

So when the cycle began, she did a pre-rinse. At the end of that 1st rinse, the time display jumped from 2:45 to 3:10. She did a second pre-rinse. At the end of that the time display jumped to 4hrs. 3rd pre-rinse, another time adjust and seemed to settle back to 2:30. Now I know there are those that are going to say "wow, that is way to long!!" but at this time, I went to bed. So It really doesn't bother me how long it's going to take, just give me clean dishes. And that she did. No surprise the casserole dish was spotless. The baking sheet is looking better than it has in a long time. If you look closely at the center, there is a big area that is back to what it should look like. Will apply easy off to the cookie sheet and take the rest of everything off. Couldn't remember where I put the spoon with the rice casserole on it in the silverware basket, but as you can see everything is sparkling. And the filter is clean!! yes, just some minor yibbles, but that is expected.

Beautiful! You'll love this machine so much. Practically silent and does an insanely good job with so little water. Mine behaves the same way with those three prerinses, but other times it surprises me with heavily soiled loads for it to do one prerinse and then go into the main wash. You'll notice it's "brains" are so much more advanced than any previous sensor equipped dishwasher. I've still not fully memorized all its behaviors because it has so many different procedures for all types of loads with using just the Normal cycle and no options. And those few specks of yibble on the filter will most likely be all you'll ever see, Even after almost a year, I've never seen more than that even after the nastiest of runs.

So happy for you and your new beauty and so excited to have a fellow member with the exact same machine!

Thank you so much!! Yes, I feel like we're now kindred sprites!! LOL. I will contradict myself and say that even though I did want a Bosch, and after having one in Florida, This machine as matched or maybe even surpassed it. I DO LOVE IT!!
