My Grandparent's moved into a brand new home in 1955 that had a GE all electric kitchen. The cooktop was identical to this one. Even at the high price, I think that if we had a home that could use a built in cooktop I'd likely buy this one, just for nostalgic reasons. I have also cooked on these GE cooktops and I always found them to work well.

And Hotpoints had the extra high speed Calrod 6 inch unit, both ranges and cooktops. It was one area that GE was leagues ahead of Frigidaire and Westinghouse, no complicated switches to tear up, and not quite as fast, but close.
