Really worth £750 ??

Luv the lines in this ad "been told by hotpoint to list it at this price £750" & "I have this listed elsewhere and I do have the have the right to withdraw this eBay posting"

Can't wait to see what this finishes at..
Cheers Keith

I suppose...

...you could argue that in today's money the machine would cost over £1000 new. Still, the arrogant and badly written sales blurb is more than offputting. Why not just keep and enjoy it, and maybe flaunt it on ebay for fun/annoyance as may be the case here.

Yet again I am amazed that a hitherto unused top loader has been hanging around for decades. How? Why?

Bit steep

I'm not convinced it's brand new. Why buy a brand new automatic toploader in 1977 and never use it?! It's just throwing money down the drain? You buy a washing machine, especially then as you wanted a automatic!

i can

well understand how it has never got used .back in the 70s i would regularly spend a fiew days at the local coop [one of the larger dept stores]re pairing returned guarantee stuff down in the large cellar there was gear going back to the 50s i remember seeing a couple of hoover 612 s still in there boxes some early Hoover twintubs hotpoint Empress and countess pluss lots of other stuff .The store was so large i would imagine they would have just been forgotton about

How lovely to own something thats new and rare but....

why not make it affordable to all who enjoy these machines and see it go to a loving owner who not only would look after it but would keep it in mint condition and cherish the thing?

I am sorry but the use of txt spk when typed in a message really is the height of ignorance.

I say lower the start price and see if others are willing to pay through the nose or be left holding a decaying unwanted item as a folly to greed.

Exactly his spelling is atrocious! All this down with the kids speak is not the best way to sell items! I agree tone down the price. It's not exactly straight off the production line. Could be riddled with rust and god knows what if it's been stored in a barn, nice family of mice might of made home in it at one time!

What?

A very nice machine but who told him to ask that price? It's ridiculous! It is never worth that or anywhere near that. I notice it's been relisted. £250 maybe a better price to tempt someone but certainly not the silly money they are asking. It is after all quite old and any rubber seals would have deteriorated in that time in storage new machine or not.

We used to have this machine when I was a child. It lasted about 7 years and had a couple of call outs during that time to a leak and clutch problem. Did a good wash and always fun to watch. Loved the clang it made when the clutch moved to allow the spin to operate.

...I did have to laugh when I saw that. Nobody at Hotpoint would know how much it is worth, it is all up to the individual who wants it how much they are prepared to pay for it.
I see the Buy it Now has reduced to £600.00 !!
Cheers
Keith

While I agree it's a nice machine they are not really that rare to justify paying that amount. These days most people Inc myself could really use it as a daily driver. I'm on a water meter and the amount of energy needed to do a wash would be too much. I've had a hotpoint top loader as my first machine but that was 20 years ago. I hope the seller sees sense and not greedy pound signs

Un-used 1509/10?

I wonder just how un-used this machine is - the filter-clean tray is not original, or at least has been modified. During that run of models, the filter-clean tray had a wide clip-on rim to prevent detergent flying around the top of the tub. Also the peel-off label under the options is gone, as have the warning labels on the lid and filter-tray.

Nonetheless it looks like a fine, clean example of a brilliant machine - if I were in the UK I'd make an offer on it - possibly not for £750 though...

Hotpoint's opinion

Keith is right too - the notion that Hotpoint would proffer an opinion is hilarious, given that the company has changed hands twice since that machine was built. The chances of anyone at Indesit Company actually knowing that their predecessors made this machine are slim to non-existent...

BIN

I wonder if they brought the buy it now price down again.

Gotta say that, if it is as NIB as they say it is, then it is probably worth £500. Sure there are plenty of Hotpoint Top Loaders around but very few of this vintage with the time line display. And no, it was not me who bought it either.

But, if its someone from here, enjoy in good health is what I say.
