Thanks be to God for all this but we just closed on a brand new home in Opelousas, LA.

Here's what's in the kitchen, Maytag stainless electric range and DW, ISE garbage disposal. Whirlpool (ironic, huh) stainless side-by-side fridge.

Laundry, BLACK Whirlpool set with Accuwash and Accudry

Living room, Sony 57" Television.

Master bath, HUGE garden tub with built in Jacuzzi and a shower stall.

Huge 2 car garage and a monster big lot.

Let this be a lesson, BUY FLOOD INSURANCE, even if you don't think you need it. We actually lived above sea level in Chalmette and didn't need it.

Pics coming soon.

Jason, my parents always had flood insureance in Houston. And I had it from the first house I bought until I left in 1986. Worth every penny!!!

That 57" tv has me quaking in my boots. FOOTBALL!!!

Well, ya think ya can get your mom to use the dishwasher?

I really don't know what else to say. Congratulations seems out of place.

I'm so relieved y'all are safe. I think about your mom a lot.

Jaune, I think Jason is speaking of his parents.

Jason, I'm glad you all are safe and that things are working out for your family.

Jason...I'm so happy for you!

Jason:

God bless you and your family. I hope the excitement of a new home and appliances takes away some of the pain of your losses.

Flood insurance is definitely a must have. We have it here, even though our sheds are the only buildings in the flood plain. We were required to have it at our previous home. For 13 years I complained that our home never flooded and we were just throwing our money away. Six months after we moved out, that house flooded and had three feet of water in it. It subsequently flooded about three or four more times after that. The government finally bought out the homes and tore them down. To everyone out there....get flood insurance. You never know when you may need it.

The mini-wash-in offer still stands. I am painting today, and we are inching closer to completion.

Good luck and enjoy your beautiful new home!

Way to go Jason! I don't know if I told you before, but my Grandparents and family are from the Eunice/Opelausas/Lafayette area. I have friends who live off of 167. A real nice cajun place there. It will be much more enjoyable than the other place.

Steve

Hi Jason, that is wonderful news! Congrats on your new home, new life, new appliances! Now you can start looking for that '71 Kenmore 800 of your dreams. I'm always keeping my eyes out for one here for you.

Cajun

Oh yeah chere! There's lots of us here. Don't mess wit' Boudreaux.

I like Opelousas, it's an OLD town but it has a main st. with many old buildings and a VINTAGE Dairy Queen. The DQ has the old 50s Turquoise ice cream machines still spinnin'.

Now you go down hwy 190 to the little town of Eunice on Saturday mornings. Stop by at Marc Savoy's music shop to hear some good ol' fashioned cajun music. I plan on getting an accordion and learning it myself. I owe it to my heritage. I didn't learn to speak French but at least I can learn to play accordion and cook Cajun food.

I'm more likely to find a 71 Kenmore around here because people try to preserve their stuff here more than in the big city. Now convincing my parents to let me get one and install it is another issue.

Congratulations Janson to you and your family!! Sounds like a really nice place. You are sure going to have fun breaking in all those new appliances. A 1971 Kenmore 800 can't be far off!! Terry

Yes, congratulations Jason!!

My Mom's family is from White Castle/Baton Rouge. We've been in contact with all and they are doing OK.

My Mom is Cajun and I have always enjoyed her cooking! Crawfish gumbo (I get frozen tail meat) with lots of rice is my favorite. I love her shrimp/crawfish etouffe' and most of her Minnesota hotdishes have been "creoled" with tomatoes and spices.

She taught us all to love grits, hominy, good cornbread, and pork roast with rice and gravy!! :-)

Good food for the soul ...

Geoff

Rice and gravy

That's the ONLY way to cook.

Last night I had some turtle stew and it was DA BOMB! And the night before last it was meatball fricasse' with boiled eggs added in for good measure.

I'm gonna gain weight livin over here.

I can't wait to make some gumbo on that new stainless Maytag stove.
