Hey guys, what's your take on the new Lucky markets? I was seriously disappointed when I shopped there a couple of weeks ago. No selection and confusing pricing. I talked with a buddy of mine about this and he agreed.

I expected a whole new image but instead it was as if the staff was asleep at the wheel. Hardly a "grand" opening. My experience was frustrating and shocking at the same time, as I noticed ridiculously high prices on anything but sale items.

I was in Santa Cruz over the weekend and saw that their Alberstons markets became SaveMart, which is a far superior store to Lucky. As fond as I have been of the Lucky brand since it was the nearby store of my childhood, I'd much prefer to have SaveMart's selection and quality instead. This is actually a relief, since Lucky is the most difficult to access of the three supermarkets near me and I won't be going back any time soon.

What do others here think of the newly revived Lucky stores?

Speaking of Card Stores.....

It used to be that if you were in a grocery store and didn't have one of those affinity cards the cashier would enter a number for you so you'd get the discount. When Safeway took over Randalls they stopped that practice. However, if you didn't have your card with you you could go home and get it and bring it to the Customer Service desk along with your receipt and they would refund the difference to you.

I never did like those cards anyway.....

Cards

Yes, that is one improvement over Alberstons for sure. No card required at the new Lucky stores. Safeway appears to be the last holdout. Cashiers at most stores had a card they could swipe for you if you weren't carrying your own, but Safeway never did that. Safeway did let you punch in your phone number if you didn't have your card, but it was an inconvenience regardless.
