Last august my parents wanted to get a new television. They have DirecTV so didn't want a smart TV (even though it would have been cheaper, they wanted a dumb TV like they had). So I found one at electronic Express on sale. It worked fine for 5 months and then just lost picture but had sound. Well it is still under warranty so I contacted Curtis international who makes RCA. I had to jump through a few hoops sending them videos and pictures but they emailed me saying they will just send us a refund check which can take 4 weeks but that's ok. So now I'm waiting....
It's a shame to have to throw things away instead of repairing. I will update when we get the check. My parents went ahead and got an LG Smart TV and I just set it up for DirecTV. They have no Internet at their house.

The throwaway society we have today is just absurd. Hopefully we go back to simpler designs that are very repairable but I doubt it will happen in my lifetime. Probably would happen if a SHTF scenario panned out but it would be all of the REALLY old stuff getting repaired only.

I bought a small RCA tv/dvd combo for my moms room in the care home. It worked okay for a couple of years then then lost the picture but by that time she wasn't even aware so it got tossed. Being as it was only about $180 cdn at Walmart and they probably only paid about $40 for it from the maker they're not going to fix anything there's nowhere for them to be fixed, just replace under warranty and that's all.
