Was making a bit of popcorn tonight, and as I was cleaning the kitchen I came across the pie plate and rack I had done a couple of chicken thighs in the microwave for dinner.   The pie plate had a pseudo chicken schmaltz in it so instead of butter I tossed the drippings into the popcorn.  Got to say it was a great flavoring agent!

For a quick meal I rub a couple of chicken thighs with olive oil , salt and Mrs. Dash, place them on a rack and pop them in the micro for about 5 minutes skin side down, then turn and cook another 4 minutes or so.  The drippings are a combo of the oil,  chicken fat and seasonings  that form a surprisingly very good substitute for butter on popcorn.

What other unusual topping do you use on popcorn?

As soon as I take the popcorn off the heat, I add a pinch or two of zahter, which is a middle eastern seasoning, primarily ground sumac, but also in formulations with other spices. Then I add some salt. The steam coming off the popcorn causes the flavor of the zahter to bloom.  Zahter with garlic and olive oil is good on bread, toast and pasta.

No popcorn, but in France they have rotisserie chicken flavored potato chips, the taste is just divine.
In Spain there is a fried egg flavored variety, but so far I haven`t been brave enough to try these...
