As some of you will know, our Bosch dryer packed up after only 3 years and needing a new heating element. With their spare parts being outrageously overpriced at £95 for a heating element plus an extra £80 for their call out charge, we decided it was best just to scrap the Bosch dryer and buy a new one.
After deciding between a Creda TVR2 and a White Knight 44AW (I think), we decided on the Creda as it was better put together than the White Knight, plus I didn't want the stupid reversing system that White Knight have on their dryers which is no more effective than unidirectional tumbling IMO. Anyway, after we decided on the Creda dryer we spotted the Hotpoint VTD20P, which was £30 more expensive but also had auto drying programmes, an easy iron programme, a delay timer (which admittedly will never be used), and a selectable end of cycle signal. It was a no brainer to pick the VTD20P over the Creda, especially as we have been used to sensor drying over the past few years.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, got it home and got it installed and I have to say it is a nice machine. I was very sceptical at first as to how it would perform, but it dries more evenly than the Bosch did, and managed to dry a 6kg load of towels in 55 mins using the auto drying programme and high heat. Clothes take longer to dry at 80-90 minutes, but the heat setting on low heat is much much lower and much gentler so it seems to be an alright compromise - only snag I have is that you can't use low heat on the sensor programmes!
All in all it is a good dryer for £180 - and if it breaks down after 3 years or so then so be it - it was cheaper than the Bosch was, and will also be cheaper to repair. I definitely think that the German washers are a cut above the rest (asides from Bosch - funny how the Bosch washer needed a costly repair after 3 years too...), but I'm not so sure if there is as huge a difference with the dryers and whilst it's taken some getting used to a bit more plastic you really can't fault this dryer... so far!
Anyway enough of my babbling... enjoy the pics! At the same time you may as well enjoy the new layout of our utility room, it's had a bit of a revamp for the spring (new lick of paint, and had appliances moved around), and although there's only the 1 set in there (all my own machines are in storage at the moment), it is a nice little laundry area!
