Last week my parents washer went out, a 1999 Kenmore direct drive by Whirpool top load with the dual action agitator. I suggested it might be best to get it repaired, but my parents insisted they needed a working washer right away. They bought this Kenmore model by Whirlpool which I have linked. I figured it would be a pretty good washer, but my mother says it makes too much noise and takes too long and she doesn't like the lid lock. Sears said they'll take it back.

I'm not sure getting a different washer will make any difference, as it seems to me they all work the same.

I've heard good things about Speed Queen top loaders and I see some of the independent places here do sell them. I know the new 2018 models are different but is it possible there might be a late 2017 model still in stock? I think she would like that given the type of washer they're familiar with.

I'm not sure they would like the price though, but maybe it would be cheaper being a last year model.

Thanks for the info, but NVM. There's no way they'd spend anywhere near that much on a washer. I thought they could get a dial one for around $500.

I guess I'll just have to suggest they get a very BOL washer or otherwise get a used one.

I ordered that same Speed Queen model from Appliance Connection on 2-8-2018 after being assured they had 3 machines in stock. They had no dryers so I ordered that from another place. I called them 2 days later and asked what progress they made on my order. They told me the machines were on order from the manufacturer to their distributor and it would take at least 2 weeks for them to be received. Frankly, I don't think anything is on the way from Speed Queen. It took an act of congress to get this New York company to cancel my order and they were downright nasty. I had to find a washer quickly since the dryer was on it's way. I did locate one in a town near me. I would order with caution from Appliance Connection or better yet, not at all.

I enjoy reading product ratings on Amazon, especially when there's a couple of thousand or more for one item. Over the years, I've never paid a lot of attention to Consumer Reports and their mostly opinions about stuff. But you have to admit these customer ratings (not the magazine's) on the Speed Queen 2017 top loader are hard to beat. Pretty much glowing.
