This was found new-in-box among the possessions of my late grandparents. How could I pass it up? It hangs proudly on my wall... like I'll ever carve a roast! Great piece, though. I'm sure I'll have an excuse to try it some day.

You might....unless you're a vegetarian. But, electric knives come in handy for a number of things, not the least of which bread. They're great for that! Switchable means you can switch the direction of the blade on this model from regular knife position to crossways.

Not a vegetarian...

I like meat!
Anyway I never thought of bread. Eliminates the problems of squishing soft loaves. I know about the ability to switch the orientation, I have the instructions, which is always a joy with older appliances. I'll have to review them to see what else it might be good for.

Oh, lots of things!

Homemade (or bakery) breads, quesadillas, pecan pie, canapes..oh, I have a Black and Decker Ergo electric knife, and use it a lot. Even good for slicing (a lot) of tomatoes!

And That's Not All!

If you ever need to cut foam rubber (like an upholstery project or something), an electric knife goes right through it. Like buttah, in fact. You get a straight, even cut not possible any other way.

Agreed that electric knives work great on non-food items.

And you don't need to be a carnivore to have a use for one. Just ask Alton Brown, who swears by these things.
