Havent bought.............

Paper napkins or garbage bags for decades. I buy the large roll packs of Bounty at Home Depot and use them sparingly and one pack lasts me months. I use dish towels mostly. For wiping my face when eating I use soft bar towels I bought in a large pack 20 years ago at Sams. For garbage bags I get groceries bagged in paper and always get more bags than I need when shopping so I never run out. I generate one grocery bag of trash per day. For toilet paper the local store has Marcal 1000 sheet rolls for .79 each limit of 8. I buy 8 twice a week so Im well stocked now.

What do you do

without plastic garbage bags?

Paper from the grocery store is out for us because Bruce does the shopping and always comes home with tons of plastic grocery bags which we recycle...

Maybe I'm answering my own question--get a trash can small enough for the plastic grocery bags and just take the trash out more often.

John (combo52), what do you use?

Sarah,

We use the plastic grocery bags (getting scarce here with local regulations banning them) as liners in the bathroom trash cans... except for the guest bath. Pull up the handles, tie them off and they're ready to go. Maybe you could use a can like that in the kitchen and tie off 1 a day or two? We use 13 gal kitchen bags in both kitchen cans as well as the comingle (glass, foil, plastic) recycle bin.

Oh, I just use the drawstring trash bags. Have a rollout basket (on a frame) under main kitchen sink and under enclosed patio sink. Usually use the patio sink bag, which isn't full at the end of the week, to receive non-paper trash from bath/office/living room. All paper/cardboard and other recyclable trash goes into unlined basket in kitchen, and from there into recycle cart. Excess produce waste goes into compost bin in back yard. Chicken and beef bones get saved in separate freezer bags and when full are turned into bone broth in the Instapot. And then those bones (now soft) go into compost bin as well. Compost gets spread over garden where more veggies are grown.
