Norge/Montgomery Ward washer belt?

Hi everyone,

Does anyone happen to know the part number for the Norge/Montgomery Ward belt for my model, LNC6535A87? RepairClinic thinks it's unavailable; AppliancePartsPros have what they consider the "equivalent," but it appears to be from the later painted-tub Admiral design, and I'm not sure if that's spot-on.

Well, I don't think that monster needs to be kicked to the curb, but I do agree on finding a 1-18, if not to drive the neighbors nuts. I never thought those burpalator Norges were as noisy as a 1-18 so the neighbors can alreaedy hear it Nate.

Yeah, but I still think Nate's going to get calls from the Colosseum to keep the racket down if he's doing laundry with that monster during the next heavy metal concert there.

I might add that it's a testament to the general lack of faith in the longevity of Norge/Wards machines when a belt is already NLA for his model.

OTOH, if you have a 50+ year old Whirly/Kenmore, parts are a relative cinch to find. Enough said right there.

I will concede, however, that the companion dryer to Nate's washer is phenomenally reliable, and no more audible than any of its contemporaries.

But I found it www.easyapplianceparts.com they have cross reference of model numbers, but they also need your serial to confirm...about 20.00

Another place is here in Jersey.....1-800-522-4134....they claim if the don't have it they can find it for you...

If you have the old one, take it to an auto parts store, and match one up.

I got a Norge dryer belt all the appliance stores said was NLA, Just have them cross reference the number with Borg Warner!!

Thanks, guys. I'll give that a go. Does the Norge belt slip like a Maytag, or is it just a belt-belt?

As for racket , the Wards clanks on each backstroke of the agitator, so yeah, I'm sure the neighbors have earplugs already But it washes so beautifully!

I've done just that with my current Norge -- your local auto parts store will have the same size belt.

Question, though--how do these accomplish the partial-neutral drain if the belt doesn't slip? What's absorbing the energy while the brake holds the basket? Is there a clutch involved?

You know I'm just having fun giving you a bad time . . . don't you?

I can't remember if Mom's beast did a partial neutral drain, but now that you've mentioned it, I think maybe it did. Again, I have a self-imposed mental block about the mechanics on the Signature, so the only slipping belt arrangement I've ever seen was on my center dial Maytag.

No doubt you'll have the mechanism figured out quickly once you take a good look at it.

When are you going to post some scary pitchers?

No this is a standard belt Nate and it doesn't slip, IIRC the clutch spring is made to grip, but not so tight as to cause the pulley to stall when the brake is engaged. If I remember tonight I will look up the size, if not remind me
