Hi all, first time poster long time listener.

Im working on an article about the history of Maytag and its downfall into the Whirlpool purchase.

The area I'm still researching and oddly closest today is in just before the acquisition.

I know the Neptunes had huge issues, but I've been hearing a lot of discussions here and there about the Performa and Amanatags that had issues as well. Obviously Maytag wanted more budget friendly models and made changes and decisions to make that happen.

But my impression that, of the two, the Amanatag had more systemic issues with the triple lip problems among others.

But I was curious about any servicers opinions on this since all the machines I touched were well outside of the warranty and better built than the more modern trashy competitors.

Thanks for the advice!

my family used to have a norgetag washer/dryer. From memory the most common issues we had were with the dryer, the bushing or mount or whatever on the blower fan would wear out and the dryer would get super noisy, and then we'd have it replaced and it would be fine for a few years but then eventually it'd get loud again. I think we replaced it at least 3 times? eventually the door latch wore out the metal on the door, and that was pretty much the death of the dryer. The washer had fewer issues, we had to replace the motor once but other than that it was reliable until it started leaking, by which point we decided that it was time to replace the set.

Many of the real* Neptune frontloaders' issues were corrected via revisions through the course of production.

The Neptune toploader was a different story ...

*There were larger-capacity Neptune frontloaders sourced from Samsung.
