Nortek Global HVAC; maker of Gibson,Frigidaire,Maytag

I've never heard of this company who manufactures central air and other things using licensed names of Gibson, Frigidaire, Maytag, Broan for their units. What got me looking was seeing my neighbors Gibson central air unit.They had it installed perhaps 5 years ago and so far no problems. From their website seems to be quite a large company.

A few years ago they came out with a high efficiency condensing gas package unit. It was interesting reading about it and how it worked. But this company has a bad reliability history with coils leaking and other major issues. I was seriously interested in the packaged unit with 95% a due until I googled their complaints and reliability issues.

Sister had a Maytag heat pump installed in a previous house as a replacement for whatever was the original.  A problem developed during the warranty period (5 yrs?) and the local installing dealer had broken ties with Maytag HVAC.  She found a dealer in the next town up that was willing/able to take care of it.  There was a cost involved so only the part was covered.
